My license by examination NCLEX-RN Application Experience

World Registration

Published

Hello there fellow nurses!

I would like to share the steps I took in order to take my NCLEX-RN exam. I know how it feels to not know how to start, doing everything from asking friends, making online researches and participating in nursing forums such as these.. So I decided to share my experience and hope to help those of you who are still starting with their own USRN Journey. Feel free to ask questions!

Hi, just wanted to ask you, did you have an American visa before because I was denied one even after I brought supporting documents to show that I had due cause to be in the U.S.. I have gotten my eligibility to test from myBON but unable to pay for the exam since I do not have a visa to enter the U.S.. So how did you do yours? As you may know if u pay Pearson Vue then there's a 3 month window period. If you're unable to meet that deadline then you lose your payment, so what advice can you give?

Hi rnunic1! No I didn't have my US visa that time yet as I was also still processing my immigration papers that time as well. I have a question though, when the BON contacted you and gave your eligibility, did they also say the validity of their approval of your application? I mean did they like tell you that you should be able to take the exam within this span of time? Which state are you applying at by the way? Because based on my experience, when they sent me an email approving my application, they told me that I should take the exam within one year (that's 04/09/2013 to 04/08/2014). Uhm, I think the 3 month window period you've mentioned is about the validity of the ATT once you've registered with the Pearson Vue? And I guess it also varies from each State. Like my friend who's appying for NewYork, it's only 3months. But where I applied - Alaska, my ATT validity was for one year.. So I suggest you check your BON approval validity when you got your eligibility, then find out also the usual ATT validity for the said state. You can then compromise and decide from there the best time you can schedule your exam. :)

thank you so much for responding i really appreciate it especially from a fellow. i have read the requirements in their website. i know the technicals but i just dont know if they allow to renew license without SSN and if they allow a licensee to be out of state (i mean to hold a license even if i will only live in here and not go there). i have read a lot from this forum lately and it is really hard to get good advice or even tips nowadays from people who are there already...some even discourage others. what they do not remember is how they were back in the day and what they were before they went there. so i thank you for this thread.:) may i ask do you work there now or do you have plans to endorse to another... i am sorry i cannot send private messages yet i dont know how and i am new to this forum. i am looking forward to your response.

No problem. :) I know, I'd been there too and I know the feeling when you don't know how to start and what to do. Which state are you applying for by the way? I'm not sure what you meant when you asked about the license renewal without SSN. Are you currently processing your papers to move here in the States? Like you still have plans in moving and working here? In my case I even forgot to update my address with the Alaska Board of Nursing, so more than a week after I passed the NCLEX-RN exam, I got this news from my family in the Philippines that they got a mail, and when I asked them to check, it actually contained my nursing certificate and my official AK Nurse license! So I guess there are some states who actually allow and even send licenses to foreign nurses.

Well as of now, I'm already job-hunting, just gone through one tough job interview and I hope to get the position. I don't have any plans to move to another state, so I'm good here ;)

What you have to remember is each state will have their own requirements and even if you move from one state to another you will be classed as an International nurse and the BON may still require you to meet requirements not of endorsement but as an initial applicant

Thanks for the additional information silverdragon102!

p-may, i dont know where yet, i am still in the process of researching and asking. thank you so much for this info. :)
