Hi there!!

I know foreign graduates are being banned here in Ca like they need to study nursing again. I applied mine and an analyst required me to submit certain requirements. I don't wanna finish the said application because I am scared that I may get (for sure) the same outcome as what to other foreign applicants had received. I'm planning to try NCLEX to New Mexico even though i'm a Ca resident, I might move there someday. My question is that should I try it at least to continue the said NCLEX or forget all about it? I'm so frustrated and just pure lost..

Welcome to AN!

The IEN grads are NOT being banned. The education is not up to the standards of the board in California. It is NOT just IEN grads but US schools are affected as well due to concurrency issues. Thread moved for best response.

You can take the NCLEX-RN in wherever states that your educational background meets in that particular state's BON requirements, along with any pre-examination items, such as course evaluations, English proficiency exams, etc. Then, plan to stay and work there as soon as you pass the NCLEX, as endorsing back into CA no longer an option, until the required deficiencies are met.

You can still proceed with your application in CA, you have 3 years from the application date to complete the re-taking of whatever courses were deemed lacking. You have to actually complete the courses before the 3rd year anniversary or CA BRN will consider that you are no longer interested in completing the application and will simply place the file as an "abandoned" application.

You can not be just enrolled, you must actually complete the course(s) and show the proof, the courses must also be approved by the CA BRN if in CA. There have been a few posters who stated they went out of state, got the deficiency done, claims (as of this date), they got the ATT in CA and one claims to have soon receive her RN license in CA, but they have not really confirmed that and I asked, maybe they will come back to state it does work.

But the reason I questioned them, is that it seems the school where they got this completed was from the same state, it may be a private college and probably a plug for them and $$$. They have not given out that name of this school. One claimed to have been given the approval from the CA BRN to go out of state and get it done.

My concern is that unless the CA BRN specially in writing (only) says so, then it's okay. If verbal, not going to believe that al all. The point is if it's a wild goose chase, you guys will be spending time and money and still end up with the denial as it was never stated in writing it will be approved.

Your next question is are there such schools in CA? Yes, there is, there's a few good threads and recent postings by a couple of them that have done so. Mind you, average class is small, there are several other students from other countries that are also taking the same courses.

You need to start now to get on a waiting list, as again, the course(s) must be completed in a timely manner or you will have to start all over again with new fees, possibly new requirements when re-applying. You will have to re-ask your school's again etc and in some cases, schools are not keeping their records for much longer than a few years.

With the stricter requirements for documentation evidence, the proof of the burden is on each applicant, not the BON's. The rules are set, it's there for everyone to see and read and follow.

The fuse has been lit and I can not stress the importance of hunting down and getting in your place in the line today, as tomorrow (3 years will fly by so fast) is almost here now.

Thank you so much steppybay. This enlightened me to pursue the said application..Hoping for a good outcome with this..
