wRVU bonus - am I calculating this right??

So I've got a tentative job offer with salary of 80K plus production bonus of $27 per wRVU in excess of base salary. The paper they gave me gave some examples:

Base salary: 80,000

wRVU 3000 3700 4500

Bonus 1000 19,900 41,500

Total $ 81,000 99,900 121,500

So I did some research into what the heck a wRVU is and kinda understand it. But with some math I was able to calculate that apparently my base salary will be at 2,963 wRVU

(I made it all a proportion so 3,000/81,000 = X/80,000)

Anyway per a presentation I found the average 99213 has a wRVU of 0.97.

Soooooo even if I see all 213's:

2963/0.97 = 3055 99213's

3055/52 weeks = 58.75 99213's per week = 14.69 per day (if I work 4 days per week)

Does that really mean that if I see much of anything above 15 patients per day I will be getting a bonus???

Because that seems a little too good to be true. Base pay is already more than I was expecting (the average for new grads from my school was about 70K per our instructors).

And YES I understand that each wRVU is different BUT I just wanted an average....

Am I misunderstanding all of this??

This seems somewhat doable. Its going to depend on your case mix. If you are being shunted all the URIs etc then you won't have as many RVUs as if you have more complex patients (although if you can see more you can make up for this).

Here is a pretty good lecture on the subject as well as some warnings on RVU compensation.

you have to google "wRVU Family practice" - the second result saves a a local file for some reason. Average NP RVUs per MGMA in 2010 was 3200 for example.

I think that's actually the presentation I looked at lol.

Just seemed a little too easy to get a bonus but maybe it just is. Just a perk!
