Questions for NPs

Specialties NP

Hi everyone, I'm currently in school for FNP. Just wondering if someone can give me some insights about issues related to the NP's role that you think are most challenging/interesting/frustrating? What is your approach to this issue and how it has changed you?

I have some ideas in mind, but just want to make sure I'm not totally off topic for my assignment.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Specializes in Surgery.

Being called a PA!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Some of the issues I face:

1. End of life issues - fortunately in IL APRNs can now sign POLST forms which is a great plus.

2. Donut hole - many Medicare pts who take lots of meds are in the donut hole by now and can no longer afford their meds until Jan 2016.

3. Distance to care - I work in multiple rural areas and my pts often have to travel 50-75 miles to get specialized care.

Those are the big ones I face on a daily basis.
