Post-Masters Certificate question

Specialties NP

Specializes in SICU/CVICU.

If I were to obtain my Masters degree in an RN-MS program, would I be able to get my Post-MS Certificate at another school? Is that a common thing to do? I just really want to get my Masters at the school closest to me, but they don't have the specialty that I want. Would it be strange if I got my Masters there and went to another school for the actual NP certification?

Can anyone help me out with this? It would be greatly appreciated!

You can do that...I did. I got a MS in Nursing from one school (I got certified as an ANP & GNP), then went back to another school 3 years later and got a post-Master's certificate as a FNP. The only thing is, you need to check to see that the courses are going to transfer to the new school. I was fortunate, because all of my courses transferred and I didn't have to retake anything. However, I remember a couple of NP's in my class who had to retake a LOT of classes. It was like they were having to start all over again, which was ridiculous.

Well, you can do it but it would cost you a lot more time, money, and effort than just taking a Master's with the concentation you know you want in the first place ...
