NJ NP's

Hello,

I just recently relocated from CA and am in the process of obtaining my NJ NP certification (which is moving at a snails pace). I am looking to start work early next year and being new to the area I would love some advice pertaining to NP support groups and networking. I looked at the NJ association for NP's (it did not seem to be as big as the one for CA) and wanted to know if there were other resources such as this. I specialize in OB/GYN and would like to stay in that field but I do have authority to practice in a Family setting. Thanks in advanced for any help!

In what area of NJ are you going to practice? There is an interesting divide between South Jersey/Philly area, South Jersey shore area, and Central/North Jersey. You may want to look at smaller groups which are often found through colleges or Sigma Theta Tau type organizations.

I am living in the south jersey/Philly area. Why the divide?

Because the Northern part of the state is a giant NYC suburb, most people work in NYC and commute in during the day, and the entire area (for the most part) is extremely affluent and expensive. A lot of north jersey people barely acknowledge the existence of the southern part of the state. They really might as well be two different states, much in the same way NYC and the surrounding suburb counties (Westchester, etc) are so entirely different from upstate NY (albany, rochester, syracuse).

In terms of nursing jobs, the vast majority are in the southern part due to overpopulation in the north.
