Looking for a short NP program- less than 2 years

Specialties NP

Hi I am posting this here since I think most of you may have completed your programs already and can offer your thoughts. I am seeking a shorter program than those that are 2 plus years long. There are schools that are this short. I am a nontraditional student and do want to complete the work online and be able to practice sooner. Knowing those schools which are very used to older students would be very helpful too. I will transfer in courses from another accredited MSN program. I hope you can help me narrow down the schools that offer online NP programs that are shorter than 2 years and are very used to nontraditional students. Thanks, Barinbass.

Specializes in Emergency, MCCU, Surgical/ENT, Hep Trans.

Abe, what are you trying to accomplish? If you are in an ANP program already, you might be able to extend ONE semester and DUAL as a F or ACNP if your school offers. If not, like mentioned above, Wonderbilt or UAB are great places for post-masters.

I know though, some faculty advisors like to see some CV or resume work before offering post-masters credit. Something to think about.

MUW in ms has a 12 month fnp for bsn and a reputation for graduating good nps. not online though.

Specializes in Internal Medicine.

UTEP is 100% online and takes 22 months.

Specializes in Neurosurgery, critical care.

The length of course is not the only factor. Remember quality of the program. There have been some recent programs that have come out whom in the professional world are not well respected and/or have a low certification pass rate (ANCC/AANP). My program took 3 year, I competed it as a part time student since I was a new RN. I worked full time nights until my last semester and had to step down to part time secondary to clinical. It is important to get a good education and foundation to build upon. Study hard and good luck.

Specializes in Medical/Oncology, Family Practice.

Trauma is a CNS, not an NP. I have heard that Georgetown has an 18month program, but is very expensive and rigorous. I went through Graceland, which was 3yrs full time, but I feel if it had been shorter it would have been a ton to absorb, as I worked full time.

Specializes in Anesthesia, Pain, Emergency Medicine.

Would you happen to have any examples? I've found that nobody cares where you graduated as long as you have the initials after your name.

I could not care less where you graduated, I judge you on your knowledge and skill.
