Yeah I know the clinicals are separate and you gotta set taht up on your own.

But what about the online lectures? How do they test you on that?

Surely they dont let you do all take home tests do they?

You'd be better off asking the specific schools that interest you. There are a variety of formats for distance education. For example, one college that I know of requires a proctored, sealed written final. It has to be taken with a certified proctor. Even though the school is in Utah, they have a list of ceritfied testing centers/proctors all over the US (mostly college-based counseling/testing centers)

At UAB, we have a timed online test. Once you access it you have a certain time limit. So far they have been multiple choice and a few true/false questions. You also have online videos of the lectures, power point presentations, discussions boards, lots of reading, weekly homework to turn in via email attachments, etc..

After the tests are administered at UAB, do they show you which ones you missed and the correct answers, or do you never find out which ones you missed--just give you a score?

Yes, I heard (via email) an instructor telling a student how to find out what they missed. I just get my score and keep going, LOL!

Well I completed my program at UAB in 2004. Yes, everything was online. We took our tests online. All lectures were online. All communication was online. But by no means was it any easier than any other classes I had so don't be deceived. I felt that the online tests were much harder meaning you had to get know lots more information to answer questions rather than them being straightfoward.

I passed my boards the first time I took them. I was able to see what I missed on most of my tests, but as someone else said earlier, I really did not bother finding out unless there was a problem with the grade. I did go in to class for two days to learn how to suture, cast, remove moles, etc. But we could have done that online too a far as I was concerned. I liked it. I would not have been able to get my Master's otherwise. I was pregnant twice while receiving my Master's and I worked, and took care of two other kids, there is no way that I could have done it all if it had not been online.

With the UAB program, how much time do you really spend on campus...how many trips? Also what State were you living in when you completed the program?

I went to Vanderbilt and did a distance option. We had some tests that were timed online tests. For patho and pharm we had to have a proctor administer our exams. Finally some tests we took when we travelled to Nashville for our block weekends.

How did you feel about the training at Vanderbilt? Any trouble on Boards or getting a job?

I just got an email from the FNP program director at Vanderbilt. He said they don't offer the program through disance ed. Has this changed?
