Anyone have any source for goals and objectives for psych conditions?

Zenman,

My patient given moniker is Zenman too, so I had to take Zenman9 with my favorite number since you had it!

I have been a practicing Acupuncturist and Yoga Teacher for the past 9 years and got certified as a Life Coach a few years ago. Your answer above says a lot about what attracts me to Psych work. The option of using other techniques, in my case Acup and Yoga is great.

I am looking in to Psych NP programs and wondering about the time and money commitment. I have two young, beautiful boys and a wife at home that I'd rather not abandon for long stretches. I am willing to 'set the family aside' as one person told me for a set amount of time to get through it and get the license.

My questions are:

Is the compensation/lifestyle of a pych NP a good quality of living? It seems so to me with the flexiblility to work privately or otherwise as well as to travel, but I'd love to hear your take.

Is an online program something worth considering for someone with no nursing experience?

Should I go for a direct entry 3 year program or bang out the accelerate BS and then go for the MS?

Thanks for your sharing, they resonate with how I roll.

Yes, the compensation and lifestyle is good as long as you enjoy the work. I love my job in spite of some minor annoyances that I can't really complain about. Some NPs complain about direct entry programs and can tell the difference with graduates of such programs. In psych you really need to know almost all medical conditions and meds because some of these can cause psych-related problems or your psych meds may interact negatively with other meds. Some of your meds may also cause physical problems. In any cause you have some health care background and can learn the above. Good luck.

Dear Zenman,

Thanks for your advice and guidance here. I'm on soul-journey.. been in the computer field (I have BS in Computer Science degree) in a long time and not anymore feel fulfilled about what I do. I think I'm ready to jump into the unknown-career (Nursing). I stumble upon this site and your thread upon internet search. Would you be kind to give an advice on how one should start fr ground-up to get into PMHMP? Such as BSN-to MSN to NP? Nursing rank and designations varies a lot. Thank you in advance. You can also PM if you would prefer that at [email protected] Thanks greatly!

Yep, BSN to MSN. I can also do soul retreivals...

Dear Zenman,

Thanks! How does soul retrievals work? Plmk thank u!
