Frustration over job

So this is really just a venting session but I have completed my MSN, and obtained my certification. Go me!! Now the job aspect comes into play. I'm becoming more and more frustrated as time goes on. Yes I'm a new graduate, yes I'm on the younger aspect but I'm tired of hearing if you had more experience. I'm looking everywhere for jobs but time and time again I'm being passed off. I have been doing palliative care for over a year now and I keep getting well of you had more acute care experience (aka ICU or ED) you may have received the job. I love being a palliative care nurse but I'm starting to become disheartened. Okay sorry but I just had to get that off my chest.

What sort of NP are you?

Family NP

Interesting, I expected you to say AGNP. I'm used to positions saying AGNPs need more inpatient experience...but not FNP. What sort of positions are you applying for? What metro?

Also you say you're doing palliative care - as an RN or as an FNP?

As an RN

Have you been doing that for a while? Also, I notice you're in NY, is that NYC? I imagine the market sucks there just like for RNs

Over a year and not NYC

Over a year and not NYC

Perhaps you've been working as a non-NP for too long and now they see you as out of practice. Try an agency for a home health NP job.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

What types of NP jobs are you applying for? Are you using network contacts? How long has it been since you took the boards for FNP?

Do you belong to your state NP association? Do you go to events? Great way to network and they often have job info before it is posted online.

Have you applied at retail clinics?

Specializes in Home Health, Podiatry, Neurology, Case Mgmt.

I'm just getting ready to start NP school but from time to time I check out cragislist, indeed, the FNA (florida) and look at NP offerings. I noticed that some places with Walgreens and CVS have new graduate NP positions listed. =) Maybe try that...do you work for a hospice? could you perhaps at least see if your company will allow you to move into an NP position with hospice? another place i looked at is called MD2U.com it's house call MD/NP visits much like primary care only in peoples' homes...maybe see if that is offered where you live as well? At least it would be a start. Good luck!
