I'm a new NP in Florida. I know we cannot prescribe controlled substances, but can I legally taper a benzodiazepine dose to wean a patient off over time?

Thanks

When I worked at a FQHC, I would have given up my DEA in a skinny minute. What, you want 600mg of mso4 for generalized pain? Sorry, I can't you'll have to see our dr.

I wouldn't touch that with a golden fork laced with diamonds! Send them to the MD. Better yet, the one that gave the dose!

Dr. Feelgood wouldn't see those patients. He establish the practice as a pill mill. I helped put a stop to this practice. I ended up weaning her off gradually. It went according to plan until the last visit for the last Rx. Previous visits she was sullen and moody. Last visit she was all smiles and I knew she found another source. I asked her for a urine sample and she split. Oh well, I did what I could.

it wouldn't hurt my feeling to never be worked for narcs again.
