Entrance into a FNP Program

Hi,

I was wondering if a BSN student could enter a FNP program without a year of clinical experience. I know for sure that I want to be a FNP. I would love to be able to graduate and immediately enter a FNP program.

Thanks

Yes, it is done often, but, I personally do not advise it. Now, some schools want you to have at least 1 or 2 years experience as an RN first......

I have a question on the topic of becoming an FNP also (hope you don't mind me tacking it onto this thread!).

I have been a nurse for almost 10 years, but have never worked in a hospital. I had very non traditional nurse jobs right out of school (much more difficult to get a job then) and now have been working Public Health/Home Health x 5 years. I really can't go to hospital nursing right now as my husband works rotating shifts(8-12hrs)an hour away from home 6 days a week and we have two little kids at home.

Am I crazy to think that they might accept me into an FNP program?? If I get accepted I would get a different part time job and quit my current job.

Any words of wisdom or advice is greatly appreciated!

Hello, Chopper, :balloons:

You are most welcome here. All NPs and NP students and NP wannabees.... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes, you would be taken seriously for an FNP program. You have experience as an RN and that is what counts. Now, you will want to get ICU/CCU/ER/peds......experience during and/or shortly after finishing school.

So, inquire about some programs and GO FOR IT!!!! :)
