Did anyone get there degree online?

My question is to all the NP's and those with MSN's, did any of you achieve a degree through an online program? If so how was it? Did you find it difficult or easier than traditional class work? Which online program did you go with? How long after getting your BSN did you wait? Thanks in advance for any info :)

Hi I completed by BSN in a traditional college campus about 16 years ago. I am almost done to comleting my MSN/NP on line . I am going to Graceland University. It is not easy ,you have to remain focused and really want it, but it was a wonderful experience and I recomend it highly.I work full time and this was my only way to acheive my goal ..... good luck:)

Nice to see this post. I just talked to Graceland a few weeks ago. My dad is a huge MU fan so he is always making fun of KU and the bird. He asked my yesterday what the Graceland mascot was? Please tell me it's tougher than a tiger:)

Hi...This is my first post on this site. I just completed my first class with UOP for my BSN. It is very expensive and I am wondering if it is about average for a BSN degree, if it is worth getting your BSN, and if any of you that have already done it have any suggestions. I have 56 credits to complete my degree. It has been a personal dream of mine to get my BSN/MSN. But...now I have 2 children and a hubby and am feeling guilty about the money ($ 24,000 or so to complete my degree if I figured it out right ). I really appreciate any replies.

I got my BSN through Excelsior College for less than 5Kand I am currently doing an online MSN/NP program through BSU in Indiana. BSU also has a BSN completion online program. There are a lot of options out there besides UOP, which is very expensive. In my opinion, Excelsior is the best deal, check it out at http://www.excelsior.edu and http://www.bsu.edu/nursing/.

Thanks a million for your reply. How many credits did you have to take to finish your BSN? I have 58 ( I think ). I have check out local campuses and other online school and it is confusing because they have different fees for other things. UOP has been easy to deal with so far....It is just so expensive. I do have to go online...that is the only way for me ( I work pt, homeschool, etc). I will definitely check out the links you sent though.

I'm doing an online MSN now. I've been a nurse for 12 years (ADN), got my BSN in 2004 and will (crossed fingers) be done with the MSN in 2005.

Which school did you go to. Is it worth the cost of getting your degree? I just started c the UOP and for 58 credits it is going to cost me $ 24,000. That is a lot of money when you are raising a family. A lot of the girls I work with that already have their BSN said it isn't worth it. I am really confused right now and appreciate the insight.

i think its harder though because you actually have to do your work instead of showing up to class and having an instructor spoon feed it to you!

Online for profit NP programs are undermining our credbility in the medical profession. Do yourself and the profession a favor and go to a traditional school. I'm in no way trying to offend anyone but this is the truth. I've talked to countless physicians/PAs/NPs that are of the same opinion. Many physicans say they won't hire someone from one of these programs.

The online programs are not going to go away, there are just too many people who cannot attend traditional schools. Schedules, distance, family and work situations prevent many people from attaining their dreams. Online courses can open up the possibility of a life-changing career step. My NP degree, from Wayne State University is a brick and morter, traditional degree. Even there, some content was online. That is just the the growth of the learning environment in this modern world. Prior to my NP degree, I completed an MSN in Nursing Administration. This degree is from Norwich University, a highly rated online program. I will tell you, this program was every bit as rigourous as the traditional school. I truely believe that there is ample opportunity for variety in education, not everyone can succeed in an online program, and the same is true of brick and morter. In both, you only get out of the program what you put into it.
