Hey all, just a question, I was putting out calls for a clinical site this week, had 2 calls today one was quite interesting. The MD a pediatrician called, we spoke for a few minutes with background info, my expereinces and hers etc. She then invited me to meet for lunch on monday so we could talk face to face. I have never had this happen before, usually I would just call or visit the office. I talked to a NP friend of mine and she said that this is how professionals should be treated. So what should I say, do, what? I have never had this happen before. ( my husband joked maybe it is a scam and they just want to abduct you):eek:The other place was quite direct and to the point " we dont precept I suggest you open up the phone book and start looking":no:BTW the first office was the interesting one :yeah::yeah:

Many MDs do this, I doubt you'll be abducted. It is the professional thing to do. Lots of students in my classes get preceptors this way. Just go, be professional, down to earth and honest. Make sure you have some questions for her, type of practice, how many pts seen a day, any additional learning resources available to you such as internet, does the MD have an understanding of NP practice, will you be shadowning or all hands on, make arrangements for hours/days, you can ask about the office's formulary, if they use electronic charting, basic questions about staff. Be sure to ask the MD if they have had students before!

From what other students have told me, those that go meet with the preceptors in a professional way all have had exceptional experiences and find the preceptor to really enjoy teaching.

well i did go have lunch with her (still here) it was a nice get to know you lunch, she did not talk much about her practice, only told me that it had been a while since she had precepted anyone and wanted to know if she would have to go in after I saw the patient, i told her she would, she told me she would have to get with her group to see what what they thought and then get back with me, have not heard a word from her since.
