Accreditation of BSN for acceptant to NP programs

My understanding is that most NP programs (or any masters program) will not accept a BSN from a school that is accredited as a career/technical school. But what if you have a Bachelor's degree from a standard four-year college (non-nursing) to go with the BSN from the career school. Do NP programs accept that for entry (provided you meet their other requirements)? Or is it a case-by-case basis depending on the NP school?

At my University, we only accept students with BSN degrees from schools that were accredited by NLN (the National League of Nursing) or CCNE (the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education) when the student graduated.

The NLN and CCNE website state which schools are accredited, and the dates of accreditation.

What about bachelor degree graduates of foreign schools?

Some schools accept college graduates with non-nursing backgrounds. So, you don't even need to worry about having a nursing degree! I believe they are called "direct entry" programs.

Double check with the school, as all are different. My understanding is that for any credits to transfer, the school must be accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies. ISU was very flexible--any regionally accredited college or university would be acceptable for transfer credit.

As far as foreign credit, my spouse had to have all transcripts measured by a third party which took over a year. The name of the place was WEST. Check with the receiving school to make sure they accept this organizations review of credit.

Thanks, I was asking UVA Grad Nursing, who stated that they only accept those from NLN/CCNE-accredited BSN programs. Surely they have foreign students?

I know, unfortunately there aren't any in my area and going out of state isn't an option.

Thanks for the replies.

For foreign applicants, we require that they have a RN license here in the US (and are eligible for Virginia licensure). We also require that international applicants have had their credentials evaluated by a national accreditation service.

We do not expect international applicants to have graduated from a NLN or CCNE accredited school. But we expect this of all domestic applicants.

I think that all foreign graduates have to evaluate their diploma/courses thru certain international evaluation services, course-by-course evaluation. Different schools accept different evaluation agencies, check that with the school but the most common are

WES (world evaluation services) and

ECE

hope that helps
