to ask that managers staff their units adequately? I am a weekend supervisor - it is my problem to keep everything flowing and keep nurse patient ratios realistic. But I can't do that when there just simply isn't a decent schedule to work with. If you need more nurses, then hire some per diems - i am sure i can find you a truck load of willing RNs. And don't schedule a skeleton crew weekend after weekend. It's not fair to anyone except the poeple that never seem to have to work weekends. One sick call with these skeleton crew schedules and i'm in a world of trouble!
ok... i feel better having vented a bit.

lol I feel you! As the nurse for 50+ patients, the staffing is like a nightmare! I'd cry for safe staffing lol.

vent to your highest nursing supervisor. At the least, you should know why they are not staffing appropriately.

I check my weekend scheduling on Friday PM.....last thing I do before leaving. When we are short on weekends it is because the staff calls in sick, etc. I schedule accordingly and they call in!!
