I am coming off orientation next week and would like to give a small thank you gift to my preceptors. I'm wondering a) if this is appropriate and b) what would be a good gift. I'm thinking you can't go wrong with candles or picture frames, but I'd like something maybe a little more personal. Any ideas?

I actually think it is quite standard. Some people gave a little, some people gave a lot. I got mine a gift card to a restaurant that she mentioned that she liked during my time with her. I also brought cupcakes for the floor. If you would like to work there, I would definitely do it, and write a nice note of appreciation.

Thanks. I actually do work there. I'm coming off new employee orientation. Actually, I've been working there for several years as a CNA. I started as an RN in March.

As a preceptor, I've gotten gifts of food, gift cards and even expensive gifts from Coach. The best gift I've ever received was a notecard with a personal note from my former orientee outlining what she appreciated about me as a preceptor. I have that framed on my desk at home! Food for the unit is great. Everyone will appreciate that. A nice personal note is better, and if you want to, put in a $5 card for coffee at the hospital's espresso cart!
