Hello to All,

I applied to five new grad position at WakeMed...I am in sorta in a dilemma....I took my NCLEX in November....I waited until January to apply to WakeMed because I heard it was a great hospital to work at...now I am hearing that I have to wait until July until the program starts...I don't know if I should get a part time job until this program starts...I know this is going to sound strange but I feel such like a failure....I can't find anything..I don't know if it is the economy or what? I am so eager and ready to learn...I am getting so tired of trying to find a job...I am also tired of sitting at home...I really didn't want to apply to Duke and/or Chapel Hill because I am a single mother and if something happens to my child I want to be close to home...I also wanted to know how long did it take for them to review and process your application? I applied January 8..I would thought that since I already have my RN# it would be a little more easier!!! but i guess not

I greatly appreciate your advice...if needed you can PM me

call human resouces and tell them you are interested. Look at the job board at wakemed.org. But, I would call them and go over thhere too. I have found them to be a little slow. What makes you think that you need to wait until July? A nurse fellow program?

Yes I called HR yesterday...the lady told me that the program starts in July..I thought that it was wrong..but I was just going by what she said..do you work at WakeMed? you can PM if you want too

Yes, I have worked there since 1991. What job did you want. Like a job in the OR may have a fellowship? I don't know. I know they specific times orientation starts, but maybe once a month. Would not think that you would have to wait 6 months?? But, really don't know. Good Luck

I applied for 5 jobs but I am very interested in the Intensive Care Nursery-New Fellows...I just applied to other ones just in case I do not get selected for NICU...how do you like working at WakeMed?

I like working there. I started in the float pool and then went to a medical unit that eventually turned into telemetry. I was there for 16 years. I now work in the day surgery PACU, which is different than the regular PACU, all of our pt's go home. I just work 8 hour shifts part time, I have been an RN over 30 years. Cannot believe how fast it has gone and how many experiences I have had. I think that the nurse fellows do start in July. I have met some staff fron the ICN and many of them have been there a long time, an indication of job satisfaction! You don't want to go somewhere with a really high nurse turn over and get burned out really fast! Good luck to you! I heard that the nurse fellow program is great at Wake.

The new grad fellowships are twice a year and the next rotation starts in May. You can apply now, though, and I'd recommend applying both to HR AND to the nurse manager where you'd like to work. You'll be competing with all the new grads in the area unfortunately.

Select the location you're interested in, then go to the "select job category" then to "Nursing-RN-New Graduate" for the available positions. The new grad fellowship is wonderful...you're not on the schedule as staff because you go to a lot of classes, and you'll have a preceptor to guide you :)

I was hired before graduation in 2006 and I LOVE WakeMed.

Thanks for the information!!!! I applied for five positions..but I am really interested in the Intensive Care Nursery..but I don't know how to let them know that I am really interested in the Nursery..how can I find out about the nurse manager's e-mail address? Since I already pass my exam, do you think it will be a little easier to get a job at WakeMed?

They'd still want you in the new grad fellowship so having your license already doesn't matter...especially since you don't have experience.

I would never apply via email. I believe in the personal touch so I'd personally hand a job packet to the nurse manager. Of course you can't expect an interview on the spot, but there's a face to go with a face at least.

I am sorry for asking so many questions..but where do you get a job packet from?

Sorry...job packet is just a term we used in NS.

Your cover letter, resume, copy of your transcript (if you have one), letters of recommendation...all in a nice folder. I also include a nicely printed business card. You can find the folders with two pockets and a business card slot at any office supply store.

Actually at WakeMed they ask for your NS GPA if you're a new grad if I'm not mistaken.
