Onslow Memorial Any good?

My husband and I might be relocating the Jacksonville area and Onslow offers a tuition scholarship for those who make contract, as in for a certain amount for tution = 1 year of work. I would love to have a guaranteed job when I finish school but have no idea what the hospital is like. I have seen only one other post on it and it wasn't promising. Any one have any info on this particular hospital or others in the area? Any info is better than no info.

Sorry, I know this doesn't answer your question, but how did you find out about the tuition scholarship?

Just as a resident of Jacksonville of over a year I can tell you that I haven't heard too many horrible things of Onslow Memorial. Oh, and their maternity staff seems to get good reviews, again as far as patients.

Ya know, I think OMH gets a bad rap, but I just graduated from CCCC and did many, many hrs of clinicals there and didn't have one bad experience from any dept. Could you make more money at Naval or another hospital? Ya, maybe but don't discount it based on rumers, it's really not that bad.

What program at CCCC did you graduate from, LPN or ADN? I've been dying to talk to someone who actually went to CCCC's program (any of them) before I get into it. What did you think of it? How were the teachers? Any information you can give would be FANTASTIC.:bow:

I graduated from the ADN program and it was wonderful. We started in August and went for 5 semesters. They are redoing the program and the new one will start in 2010.

The teachers are great, (of course) there are always the times you are frustrated and their are inconsistencies, but just study and do your best and you'll be fine.

Out of our class we have had 100% 1st time NCLEX passing so far with over half the class taking it. It's a tough program and a tough 2 yrs but so worth it!

I'm also a CCCC grad. The program was wonderful. We were held to a very high standard and alot was expected of the students. Because of this I felt well prepared going into a nursing role after graduation. Although for new nurses it takes time a patience to become comfortable and knowledgable in your area of specialty. I also did clinical at Onslow and Naval. I had a good clinical experience at OMH but didnt enjoy to the clinical at Naval as much. Then I became employed at OMH and did not have a good work experience. Remember though, everyone has a different experience. I now work at Naval and really love it. I'm surrounded by great co workers, knowledgable staff, and well staffed unit. Also the pay and benefits at Naval are better. Good luck with the nursing program. It will be the best investment for yourself that you've ever made!!

While in CCCC, do you think it would be possible to work and go to school? I just don't have the ability to quit my job and I'm afraid the program will be too inflexible to allow me to do both. Thanks!
