NC pay rate?

U.S.A. North Carolina

hello there. curious as to what the pay rate is for an LPN in NC...or what even what the military base hospitals pay. I've been thinking about moving to NC or Georgia. Also, what is the lpn role in NC? here some hospitals train their lpn's in iv therapy. The only big difference in IL, at the hospital i'm at, is i can't start blood or give iv pushes. i'd appreciate any feedback i can get. thanks

The LPN role here differs from facility to facility. Some of the hospitals and nursing homes let LPNs do almost what RN's do. Here, at Cherry Hospital, nurses mainly do medications and treatments. The pay rate here is:$26,421 for a new grad. Goes up to 27,742 after a year then at 3-5 years is $29,216.

5-7 years $29,799. And, it goes up to $32,713 after 15 years. These are starting salaries. The actual max range for this pay grade is$38,052. Hope this helps.

I just started on med/surge at a small hosp. in NC. Have no info on LPN pay rates, but CAN tell you that LPNs do everything the RNs do with but ONE exception, and that's the "initial admission interview and assessment". That is the ONLY thing the LPN does not do.

I work in a military town, although not at the base. I don't know what LPN's salaries are, but I do know that one hour away from here, the nurses make about $8-9 MORE an hour!

I really was serious about the LPNs in NC doing everything BUT the initial admission interview/assessments. At least in the hospital where I work (not LTC) on m/s, this is the way it is. Yes, I wish you COULD do those long, drawn out, cumbersome, TIMECOSUMING nasties, but c'est la vie !

The LPNs do IVP meds, work with central lines, portacaths, hang blood, you name it. They get their own patients, etc., etc... this is why many of the RNs I know in NC opted to go on to get their RN... they decided "hey! might as well be getting PAID for it !" ;)

NC is a beautiful state. Much variety... beaches and mtns., many great festivals and beautiful places to visit. Ppl are still FRIENDLY and HELPFUL ( the farther away from the "city", the better, of course.)

I live right on the line here, and if I had my "druthers", would far prefer to be a resident of NC than VA.

Hope this helps ! Check with the others on the NC forum... they might have more of the specific info you need.

Wish you the best in your studies and your future ! :)

Actually, what an LPN does in NC depends on the Nurse Practice Act and also on the individual facility. In many facilities, LPNs do not give IVP meds or work with Central Lines and if they do, it is under the supervision of a registered nurse. In this state facility, LPN's pretty much just do meds, po and IM and do treatments. It is actually a pretty good job and we don't often have positions open here as alot of people want the state benefit. At present, we just opened several positions (if anyone is interested). The pay here is comparable to other medical facilities, we don't offer sign on bonuses but we do have a good educational leave and educational assistance program.

At pitt memorial hospital, the minimum hour salary is around $19 for RNs, but you have a little experience, so yours will be slightly more.

My suggestion is a staffing agency. Well over $40,000/year.

Good luck and welcome!
