ECU Tattoo Cover-up Requirements

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am hoping to discuss with some current or past ECU nursing students about ECU's tattoo cover-up requirements. I have a small inner wrist tattoo, and I was wondering if simply wearing a bandage on top to hide it would suffice? Some schools/clinical sites do not allow the use of bandages (I guess they're thinking that they could harbor bacteria?), especially so close to the hands, where it could interfere with effective hand-washing. I could try makeup, but I think I would just rather get laser removal if the program is going to be so strict as to prohibit bandages to cover it up. Can anyone tell me if they are/were in ECU's program and had tattoos? And how did you deal with it?

Thanks!

I'm not in the ECU program but we can't have visible tattoos in mine either. You can order tattoo cover up cream on the the Internet. A lot cheaper than removing it which takes a long time and is extremely painful. This is what my friend used during clinical and she has a very large inner forearm tattoo so it should work for you :)

I use Hyde ink tattoo covers. They are just like the fake tattoos you got when you were a kid--except they are skin tone colored! Just cut to match shape of tattoo, apply with water for 30 seconds, and remove top layer. They stay on with showering, up to about 3 days until they start looking kinda gross.

Also, not in your program--but most don't let you have visible tattoos, I have one on each of my wrists.

Thanks for your responses! I have seen the Hyde Ink tattoo covers before, which is probably what I will use if I don't get it removed. Do you all know if the concealer is waterproof? I'm wondering if that mode of concealment would work since my tattoo is very close to my hand (as in right on my wrist) and we'll be washing our hands a lot. I am still hoping to hear from someone from ECU too, so I can see the program's specific reactions to using bandaids/tattoo covers/heavy-duty concealer? Thanks for the input so far!
