Inspired by a previous thread...do you surf everyone under a certain age, or do you wing it?

It goes month to month with us. Everyone under 28weeks is a go, but the others they sometimes wait on.

We usually give 2 doses to everyone, some get 3-4. Sometimes we think the kid needs the 2nd and they don't give it (but what does the nurse know, right   ).

Then there is that occasion kid that gets the pulmonary bleed after the second dose :imbar

well, I think I inspired this thread...

We surf anyone under 30 weeks. This is something they've decided on in the last 9 months or so. Before we would wing it. Micropreemies would always automatically get surfed, but what is the cut off for that? 27 weeks? 28 weeks? The in-between ages we would wing it. Then maybe end up surfing hours after birth. Now the rule is under 30 weeks automatically gets surfed. Over 30 weeks we wing it. Subsequent doses we wing it.

Depends on the babies. Usually under 30 weeks. If they are requiring more than 30% FIO2 after 1 hour, then they get another dose. I have seen term LGA babies w/ IDDM moms get 3 doses of Surf and a 24 weeker only get 1.

Everyone under 30 weeks, and if symptomatic otherwise. We've given it to 35 weeks even.
