return to prior area of interest

Specialties NICU

My question is: When I started nursing, some 20 years ago, I started in a NICU in Texas. It was my first nursing assignment and I was thrilled to have landed this position. I felt alive and that what I was doing held a great interest for me. With family obligations, I have moved on, but the call of the NICU is still there. Over the years I have remained in the Pediatric population, working the night shift. I would like to learn how to return to the NICU. Are their hospitals that would be willing to retrain a seasoned nurse in this area? Are their courses that I should review that might open up opportunities for me. I am & have always been a R.N. with an unrestricted nursing license in the State of North Carolina, which also allows me to work in the compact states. My ideal would be to remain in the North Carolina area where my kids are located.

I would love to hear any ideas on how to pursue this avenue. Thanks for your time. Jude014
