Which way do your babies heads go when they're in incubators? In my unit, the head of the baby goes at the end with the display, but I see pictures of other units and the babies are at the other end. How is it in your unit? Is there any rational to having them one way vs the other? Just curious! :)

In our NICU the baby's head is almost always at the RN's left hand, unless there is some reason this won't work out.

Thanks for all of your responses! Guess it makes sense if there isn't room for vents up at the top of the bed, but it would totally mess me up haha

Speaking of head flattening, is anyone using a Tortle positioner? We've started trialing them and they seem pretty cool so far. They're a big hit with parents who are terrified of "flounder head"

Here's the website for the Tortle midliner if anyone is interested :)

At the first hospital I worked at, babies were always head out with feet to the wall.

The rationale for this was that it was much easier to intubate in an emergency without having to flip the baby (and various wires and lines) around.

I will admit it took some getting used to when I switched hospitals and all the babies were backwards to me! And I'll also admit there were a few times it really was a pain to have to flip a sick baby (and all the lines/ wires) around to intubate!
