NICU preceptorship

Specialties NICU

Hi! So I am currently in my second semester of nursing school. The fall is when we do our preceptorship. I know there is limited spots in the NICU but it is the only spot I feel would be beneficial for me. I currently work at a children's hospital as a nursing assistant on a med surg floor. I love it! I love the kids! I love the atmosphere but I am still inbetween staying on my med surg floor or going up to the NICU. They don't do preceptorships at my hospital because they feel for us we don't get anything out of it. That is fine though I still want to get something from the pediatric field rather than adults. What do I need to do as a student to get one of those spots? How can i wow my professor that I deserve one?

Probably take Neonatal resuscitation, I know for when I did a preceptorship or student nurse position it was a requirement. It would also put you above other candidates. It's a bit expensive but you'd need it anyways to work in that field.

I have my BLS for pediatrics as well as infants! I am going to look into this as well. I may see if my work offers is so I can do it either cheaper or maybe even free. Thank you so much for the advice!
