NICU positions in GA?- What's up??

hey,

i have over seven years experience in both level ii and iii nicu and newborn nursery, but i am having the hardest time finding a job right now :o .

i had to leave my last per diem job in dec., so i've been out of it 5 months. i've gotten a lot of agency calls, but permanent positions seem scarce. it seems impossible to get my calls returned from nurse managers or recruiters. i had a great interview (at least i thought so...) a month ago at a local hospital, but it took 3 weeks of leaving messages for the recruiter and nurse manager before they let me know they had given the position to "someone internal" ?! it seems like the hospitals around here have little need of rns for their nicus.

are nicu positions slim pickings right now, or is it just me? i have never had trouble finding a job before this, and i have been a rn since 1995. i had just had a really good evaluation before i left my last job, and i have never been fired from any job.

if anyone knows of a regular part-time/per diem near the atlanta area, preferably day, evenings, or 7a-7p, please let me know. i hate feeling so rejected :angryfire , but nicu has been my #1 love since i was in college. i just can't see myself working in a different unit.

have you tried South Fulton Medical Center? When I worked there in their NICU, they were really hurting for nurses. I was agency, but I was called 5-7 days a week, even double time, at times. It is downtown, and not in the nicest area, but their Neo is GREAT, and the nurses were very nice. Good Luck.

You know is it the whole country right now? I am struggling to find something in South Carolina myself. I have an opportunity to work in PICU, but I agree with you--I love NICU. I would only take PICU until a NICU came open....is this wrong? I need to keep my vent skills current. Plus, PICU might make me a better NICU nurse??

Augusta/ MCG just filled 12 open positions... this is a bad time to look b/c nursing schools are graduating and the jobs that most new grads want (NICU, LD, ER) are getting gobbled up.

You may want to try Egelston Children's it is part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. They rarely post positions through HR, but if you call the unit directly and ask for the Staff 4 nurse of the week, they can tell you what positions are available. They are always looking for new nurses with experience. When I left a year ago, we had a MASS exidus and they were even hiring travelers which they had never done before. Good Luck!
