Hello NICU nurses,

I was wondering if any of you have had experience working with neonatal research nurses in your units??

I am interested in eventually getting involved in neonatal research as a clinical research coordinator. If any of you have worked with neonatal research nurses what kind of experience and qualifications did he/she have? Were they employed by the unit or were they from an outside facility?

I have looked on the Nursing Research forum, but there wasn't much info.

Thanks a bunch!!

We have research nurses on our unit. I know one is a NP and the other was hired from our unit. She has a BSN. They work for the hospital as we are a university facility.

Thanks for the reply dawngloves. I'm glad to know that there are neonatal research nurses. I hope to be one eventually.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PACU.

The ones that work with our docs don't have NICU experience..go figure. Actually, they are a pain in our butts...they don't know the equipment and are constantly bugging us. The other day one hooked up some amino acid mixture that they have shipped in from Michigan and ran it into the bed instead of the kid. OY!

Hey NicuGal,

Hard to believe that the neonatal research nurse doesn't have any neonatal experience. I think that should be a requirement. I could understand why they would be a pain in the butt.

Are they in the unit a lot? Do you work in a university based hospital? Are there a lot of research projects going on in your unit?

Thanks!!!!!!
