Mission Hospital Asheville or Duke

Specialties NICU

Published

Hi all,

Im new to the site and posted this in the Pediatric forum at first. I am a 3 year Neonatal ICU nurse from Florida relocating to North Carolina. I interviewed at Mission Hospital and was extremely pleased with the unit and think it would be a great place to work. I left the interview concerned that I did not get the position and applied to WakeMed and Duke. I was offered the position at Mission a few days after finding out I had secured interviews at the other hospitals. I absolutely love the Asheville area and have heard wonderful things about their NICU. I have never been to Durham/Raleigh but am of course interested in working at Duke. Does anyone have any opinions on quality of life and work environment for either of these hospitals? I'm not sure I'll even get a position at Duke but don't want to think I missed out by accepting the job at Mission without looking at all of my options. I am a single woman in my late 20s without children. Thank you!!

My experience has been in ER, but I have worked both facilities you mentioned as a traveler a few years ago. Asheville is by far a much nicer area and Mission Hospital is by far a nicer AND safer facility than Raleigh/Durham...in my opinion.

Thank you Leeza! I think I'm going to go to the other interviews just to put my mind at ease that I'm making the right choice but I'm quite certain my heart is in the mountains. I was also wondering if anyone happens to know the turn over rate for nurses at Duke. I believe Missions is low, especially in the NICU.
