:yelclap: Hi. I just changed for pediatric nursing to Nursery/NICU nursing!! I am so excited but soooo scared. I am so worried about learning the NICU part of it. Does anyone have any advice on making the change easier? Any advice on NICU nursing would be helpful. How long did it take you to feel comfortable being a baby nurse? I have been an RN for almost 6 years but the last three I have been in a clinic so its going to be a big change for me. I kind of have to start all over because we did not do a lot of stuff in the clinic. Thanks in advance for any information or advice you have on Nursery/NICU nursing.

P.S. Does anyone know how to change your user name? I want to change it from pedrn to something about nursey nurse. Thanks !!!

Congratulations on making this career change. My advise to you is to absorb all you can during your NICU training and preceptorship. Ask lots of questions, even the "dumb" ones! Know that no one expects you to be proficient right away...we all have our own learning curve. You bring a wealth of experience with you if you have already worked in pediatrics. It may not relate to the neonate but will be very valuable when it comes to dealing with scared families and prioritizing and being organized. I think most people will tell you that it takes about 2 years of experience to feel comfortable and knowledgable. But even 6 months or so out of preceptorship it should all start to click for you. Good Luck!
