Calling all Nursery Nurses... HELP!

Specialties NICU

Published

I am looking for an item that is put to use when there is a need to move up to 6 new-borne babies -- quickly, such as in the event of fire, tornado or earthquake.

It was marketed a few years ago, I believe -- as the "Papoose" or "Kangaroo" Pediatric Rapid Evacuation garment. The item was either a vest-type, smock or bib... and had up to four pockets on it (I believe all in front). These pockets were deep enough for a baby to be easily slipped into, but not cause suffication. The wearer would have their hands free to allow for the carrying of two additional babies, if need be. We remember seeing such a garment advertised, but haven't seen it since. Is it around? Who makes it? Where can we buy it? I have looked all over the 'net, with no luck at all! I truly hope that someone can assist in our search!

Sincerely,

Sandy Korda

I work in a NICU that uses those garments. We have them hanging up at each unit door in case of an emergency. I am not sure of their name, but I could look for you!

I don't know the brand name or anything but we call them "fire aprons". They hold up to 8 babies. They are red and if you can wait until Sunday I will look for you and get some better info.

It would be great if you could post the info here, but the two posts above yours are from the year 2000. You may not get a response from them.

Thanks again.
