Transfer questions about BSN programs in NYU, Adelphi, Stonybrook, QCC... to

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello! I am currently a sophomore at Boston University and I am interested in switching into a nursing program in NY. I initially wanted to apply to to nursing schools in NY for the Fall 2013 semester, but deadlines are fast approaching and I do not have enough time to build up my application as I would like to (also my GPA is 2.85). I'm pretty sure I will be able to raise it up to at least a 3.0 by the end of this semester. I was wondering if it is possible for me to complete the prereqs in time to apply for the Spring 2014 semesters. I was also wondering if it may be best for me to wait a year and apply to schools for the Fall 2014 semesters...

What I have completed:

- Stats

- I've taken two semesters of Gen Chem (C+) and I'm taking organic chemistry right now so I think I have most programs chemistry prerequisites completed.

- Psych 101, a semester of calc, 2 history courses, 2 philosophy courses, 2 university writing courses, 2 bio courses

What I need to do:

Anatomy and Physiology I and II

Developmental Psychology through the Lifespan

Microbiology

And other courses depending on the program... (pathophysiology, genetics, nutrition, electives)

I know NYU and Adelphi's 2yr BSN programs require you to take some of their courses before one moves onto the nursing curriculum such as non-nursing electives (so it would be best to start in the spring and get those other courses over with). Does anyone have any information about other programs such as Hunter, QCC, or StonyBrook and if they require you to finish non-nursing electives as well? I am not sure what I should do! Ideally, I want to graduate with my BSN as quickly as possible. I'm really interested in Stonybrook's nursing program but the deadline already passed and they only have admission for the Fall semester :\.

Also, if I apply as a non- degree applicant for Queensborough Community College I'd have to pay for all of these classes out of pocket and I can't apply for FA. However, if I transfer and apply as a matriculated student (deadline is this Friday!) it would be cheaper since I can apply for FA. Is it possible for me to attend QCC for a year (or even a semester) and then transfer out?

Also, does Stonybrook accept QCC's courses?

I'm so confused! I don't really have anyone to talk to about all this and I can't attend information sessions of the schools I'm interested in because I'm stuck here in Boston until March. So ultimately: should I build up my GPA/chances and take prereqs over the summer and apply Spring 2014 for NYU, Adelphi, and possibly QCC and Hunter? Or should I wait a year and apply Fall 2014?

I know there are so many questions! If anyone could help me with one or a few I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Hey! I don't have answers to your questions but I am from Cali and preparing to apply for NYU spring 2014. I have taken all of the entry classes already and have a 3.5 gpa in the science classes but a 2.9 total :( I will be CNA certified and have an AA by the time I apply. U should try applying for spring 14! If u don't get in at least u will kno where u went wrong! Ahhhh I hate this process! Good luck!

Need at least a 3.5 for all those schools. Try for the fall 2014, don't rush yourself. QCC credits transfer to stony brook :)
