For those accepted into NYU ABSN: sln online nutrition pre-reqs accept'd by NYU?

U.S.A. New York

Hello everyone,

This is my first post- be kind! I have learned A LOT from wading through this site. Thank you so much for sharing!

I have a question, and I hope you can help me!

I would like to apply for Spring Admission into NYU's Accelerated BSN program, but i need a nutrition pre-req course. CUNY's classes are too full and too difficult to get into as a non-matriculated student.

The easiest way is to go onto suny learning network and take one of their classes. But some of these schools, I have never even heard of- like Cayuga, or Erie or Fingerlakes. Would this be a disadvantage into admittance for the BSN?

Has anyone taken a pre-req nutrition course (or any other course) at any of these online classes and gotten accepted into NYU's program?

I don't want anything to hurt my chances of getting into NYU, and the last thing I want is to get dinged because I took a course from one of these unfamiliar community colleges. Respectfully, I am not dissing the community colleges, but for sure, if you are from NYC, we would be more familiar with BMCC or queens college- unfortunately, all full.

I know people say it doesn't state on your transcript whether these classes were taken online or not, but seriously, I have a NYC address- don;t you think the admissions people can pretty much guess I took it online? Otherwise, the only other option would be to take the online nutrition course from Univeristy of Rochester School of Nursing, which seems like a good class, but I don't know if NYU will grimace at that, too, bec. someone from one of these forums took a bunch of pre-req classes from URMC and she didn't get into NYU *sigh*

Any advice will be helpful!

Thanks!

Hi delerium,

I'm currently in the Accelerated Nursing Program at NYU and I'm starting clinicals in the Fall. At the moment I am completing my last 2 pre-reqs at NYU and I have actually heard a couple of girls in my class that are taking on-line courses. I honestly don't think this option will affect your chances of getting in at NYU, but you can always call the Nursing Department and ask them. They are always really nice and helpful and I'm sure they will help you in your decision. Also, if nutrition is your last pre-req to take and you're really worried about your chances of getting in, just take it at NYU as a non-matriculated student. It's gonna be a little more expensive then on-line but at least you don't have to worry!

Hope this helps!

Hello Kika,

Thanks so much for replying. I really appreciate your help.

I am going to try to figure this out. I contacted the Nursing Admissions program and I guess they will let me know.

How is it that you are already accepted as a BSN student, but taking pre-reqs at NYU?

I actually plan on taking microbiology and A&P at NYU this fall, but I thought you could only do it as a non-matriculated student.

Very interesting.

I wish you the best with all your classes. Sounds like a big load you have, there.

Thanks!

Hi delerium,

When I applied to the NYU nursing program I was already an NYU student, taking some classes to see how I felt about going back to school. Once I knew that I was happy to be back, I decided to pursue my interest in nursing. I knew going in that this was a big commitment and I wanted to make sure I was ready for it!

So I applied as a transfer student and I was accepted into the program since I was already taking pre-reqs at NYU. You can also apply and they can accept you with the condition of finishing your pre-reqs with a satisfactory grade.

If you're worried about taking on-line classes and you don't care about spending a little extra money, then I will definitely suggest taking your pre-reqs at NYU. It will probably make it easier in the end :)

Kika

i was just recently accepted into their ABSN program. You should have no problem. I took both Nutrition and Developmental Psych online with no problem. On the admissions page I even believe only those two classes they don't mind being online courses.

Hello NaseNYC!

Congratualtions! You must be thrilled! I am very happy for you.

I am trying to find an online course that is OPEN at the moment. They are all filling up quickly.

Could you tell me where you took your online courses? It would be very helpful.

All the best!

-KIKA: Thanks for your advice. I am having a little trouble heeding it because I can't seem to understand your advice. This is very frustrating. Could you please be more clear? Were an undergraduate BA/BS student at NYU (without a prior undergrad degree) before you transferred into the BSN or were you registered at NYU as a non-degree before you applied into the BSN? Because as far as I know, you have to apply to the program. You cannot transfer unless you are an undergrad. without a prior degree. I already have a BA from another college. I will be taking 2 pre-reqs at NYU in the Fall as a non-degree.

Thanks!
