thinking NY ER - moving from homecare to hospital

Hi All...

I'm getting ready to embark on the job search, looking to make a move by the end of the year, so just starting to research/gather info... sorry if the following is too detailed! Questions are in the last paragraph :)

Got my BSN in 04, wanted to do community health, found a job in homecare/publ. health nursing that had a solid new grad orientation. Our patient population is pretty sick so have gotten some good med/surg type experience plus of course the case management/psychosocial stuff.

It's been a good job but I've come to find it too isolating, also looking for a steeper learning curve, faster pace, and more variety. I'm thinking ER again (had interviewed for ER jobs as well as community based jobs the last time around). Seems to make sense as it is the gateway between the home and the hospital. I also like that the ER demands teamwork from the various disciplines involved.

I'm in Manhattan and planning to stay here (although I recently heard a positive opinion on Jacobi's ER in the Bronx). Any thoughts on area hospitals? Good/bad experiences working in local ERs? Any thoughts specifically on making the move from home to hospital (I know most people do it the other way around...) And... any other thoughts/advice very welcome.
