Hey! I was accepted this week too. My acceptance email went to my spam box so I was pretty sure I didn't get in- thankfully I called and she told me to check again. Great start, right? I am still waiting to hear from Bing's BAT program, but, if I get in, my choice will be between those two, like you. I live in Syracuse so I am going to visit both programs to try to get a "feel for each one", like you said. I don't relish moving closer to bad winter weather in Buffalo (if the winters in upstate decide to pick up again, that is) BUT I am very drawn to the fact that you can take a few credits towards a masters program during the Buff ABSN. I don't know how they manage to squeeze that into a one year BSN. Do you know anyone in either of these programs?

I just got accepted into the 12-month accelerated BSN program at SUNY Buffalo (the ABS program) to begin in May 2013. Anyone else? I still have to decide between this and the accelerated program at SUNY Binghamton (the BAT program). Any current or former students from either of those programs who have advice on which to choose? They both seem pretty good from what I've read, but it's hard to get a feel for each one. Thanks!

Congratulations! Feels good to be accepted, eh? :) I don't know anyone in either program, so all I know is information I've found online. They seem pretty comparable. One thing I saw at some point was that it's nearly impossible to get into clinicals in OB or peds at UB, which would be a bummer if it's true. (Anyone know if that's the case??) I grew up outside of Buffalo so I'm used to the winters - and they do a good job on the roads, so that helps. I'm planning on visiting both schools (assuming I get in to Bing) so we'll see...Any advice, anyone?

Congratulations to us all. I was beginning to wonder if I was alone. It seems this program doesn't get as much attention as it deserves on allnurses. UB has a great program is all I know and I refuse to base a life changing decision on hearsay. With that said, follow your heart if you get accepted into Bing's BAT program but keep in mind that UB is a great program. Congratulations once again and maybe we can be classmates. When you have made a decision, please let us know.

Well, I ended up choosing Binghamton. I was enrolled in a pathophysiology class this semester as one of my final prereqs for Buffalo and it turned out to be a joke - the prof had evidently never taught online before and was trying to make us take all four exams in person throughout the semester! She eventually conceded and arranged for them to be taken online, but with ridiculous limits (ie, not able to go back and check or change previous answers, only allowed one minute per question, etc), and she was obviously a very uninvolved prof who didn't care whether or not we learned the information. It wasn't worth it to me to stay in the class and deal with her nonsense, so I dropped it and had to give up the option of UB. Oh well! I agree, though - the program seems excellent and I've only heard good things about it. I'm sure it's very worthwhile and that it prepares people well for nursing. Good luck!

I've been reading alot on allnurses.com lately. I agree, there isn't a ton of feedback with regards to Buffalo's ABS program. I was also accepted for the 2013-14 program. I'm excited, but very nervous!!! I understand the accelerated nature of any nursing program means that it's NO JOKE, but is it also just as "ridiculous" as everyone says? I guess the biggest thing i'm afraid of is falling behind by even 1 day (e.g. due to getting sick, or some other uncontrollable event) and losing my confidence and/or stride. I'm also not working during that time, which is big-time stressing me out (for financial reasons), although it should help me concentrate much more on my studies. Anyone else in this same boat? Does anyone know anyone else who has completed UB's ABSN? I personally don't know of anyone who has, so I'm curious as to what to expect (aside from working my tail off :bookworm: ). Congrats to those who have been accepted as well!

I'm just finishing UB's ABS program this May. Yes, it's difficult. But there's an amazing sense of camaraderie that comes from it. Summer courses are long but the faculty understands. At times the courses are achingly unorganized, but they're considering one of (if not the) best nursing schools in Buffalo. We have a much easier time getting jobs after graduation. I would be comfortable saying that at least 1/3 of the class has already secured a job at this point. Feel free to message me for any direct questions :)

Hello Everyone. I am interested in applying to the 2014 ABSN class at UB. The application isn't available online, just wondering if anyone could give me an overview of what is on the application?

Also, does anyone have any insight as to what they are looking for? Is is based mostly on grades or are they looking for someone with a decent amount of health care experience? Any other attributes that may be beneficial?

Jobanana,

The application includes questions such as: Why do you want to be a nurse, and what type of experience do you have that will help with school. They look at more than just grades, they look at any volunteer or job experience than you may have. It seems like the median gpa that people had was a 3.5 and we all came from varied backgrounds. We had a doctor from Russia and a dentist from Canada but also lots of liberal arts degree students looking for something a bit more profitable.
