Student at Megdar Evers applying for fall 2014 nursing

U.S.A. New York

Hi everyone..Happy Holidays!! I am currently a student at MEC, and survivor of the fall semester::whew:: I put in my application for the fall 2014 nursing program, but I am a little worried because of my grades for the science courses. I got an A+ in Chem 105 lecture A- in Chem 105 Lab, and a B in A&P1:(. I know its really competitive to get into MEC nursing program, and I was wondering if anybody could give me a little insight on their experience at Medgar Evers or any other school..did I ruin my chances of getting accepted into this program...I heard they only look at 3.3 or better and I think that B messed me up:woot:.. Should I look into other schools as well? I'm open to any advice I can get..thanks guys

Thank you ga_super. Good luck to you as well. I spoke to a nursing student who said the math is quite simple and the essay is a paragraph. Hope this is true. Lol.

Can you provide more info about the interview? Is it one on one or a group interview? Also was the math and essay section challenging or pretty much what we saw on the pre-nln? I heard that if you get interviewed you stand a pretty good chance of being excepted.

How do you like the nursing program so far?

Not sure how they are doing it for this year, but last year it was a group interview held in the auditorium. All the applicants that received a letter were all seated together. We were then asked a question and we had to go up in front of everyone and answer it. There's going to be different questions. The first 10 gets the same question, the next 10 get another question and so on. The math and essay should be a walk in the park. As far as getting accepted, you're pretty much in, once you receive the letter. Congrats guys!

Thank you MoyBien. Looks like they switched things up a little this year. My interview is being held in one of the laboratories. What about you ga_super? Every time I think of the interview I get nervous. Can't wait for this to be over. What's odd though, is that some of my classmates who took the exam the same day as I did have not received a letter as yet. Do they send out a certain number of letters per week?

Oh ok, thanks for the info.

Yes, my interview is being held in one of the laboratories as well. I can't wait for this interview to be over, it makes me nervous just thinking about it. Instead of one large group they're probably spiting it up into smaller groups. I don't know about the amount of letters that are sent out but a few weeks ago I contacted the nursing department and inquired about when we will be receiving letters and was told that we would receive a letter by spring break. So those who haven't received a letter yet may not have been chosen for an interview .

Oh my! I hope this isn't the case. Wish that the number of seats available were much greater.

Hey ga-super. What'd you think of the session? I was expecting it to be like a real interview with a panel of interviewers. I can finally breathe. Lol.

Yeah I was surprised how laxed it was, they only gave us 15 secs to speak about ourselves and why we want to be in the nursing program. It's actually made me a little worried, I did a good job during the 15 secs and the essay but don't feel as if I was given an opportunity to distinguish myself from the competition. I don't know how many seats are available but there was 45 people in my session and I assume another 45 in the second session. So if they're about 60 seats and 90 people then this means 1 in 3 will be rejected...I just want to make sure I'm not one of those 3.

Anyhow looks like the waiting game begins, good luck I hope you get in.

What you said is definitely true. I hope enough information from our introduction was noted and applied to the essay and resume, because the length of time was insufficient. I also think the time limit was a means of calming everyone's nerves and to end the session on time. However, what's done is done. We can only pray and continue to think positive. Thank you, and I also wish the same for you.

I got accepted!!!!! :woot: Just have to make sure I have my CPR certificate and health form filled out by the 17th of July.

Congratulations!!! I'm happy for you! Did u get a letter or was ur major changed?

I received a letter in the mail yesterday.

I received a letter in the mail yesterday.

I haven't checked my mail as yet. I'm too nervous to do so. Have you found a facility where you can get your CPR done? If you haven't, I leave in Brooklyn and got mine at Caring4you CPR center. Same day certification, AHA.
