Stony Brook's One Year Accelerated Program?

U.S.A. New York

Hey everyone,

I am currently taking the perquisites that I will need to get into Stony Brook University's one-year accelerated program. Right now, I am taking Anatomy & Physiology at Nassau Community College. I have just finished Microbiology and I took Chemistry in the Spring.

I have my undergraduate degree in Psychology, and I graduated from Stony Brook in December 2008 with a 3.5 GPA, which is considered cum laude. I received a B+ as a grade in Chemistry and a B+ in Microbiology, and after the first test in Anatomy & Physiology, I expect around a B+, as well (although this, of course, can change). I do work full-time, and do go straight from work, basically, to school, so it is tough to dedicate more time than I already am to school.

Anyway, I have heard varying opinions of whether or not someone with my grades will even have a chance of getting in, just due to the fact that it is so competitive. People in my classes have made the general statement that "there's no way of getting into nursing school without getting an A in this class!" Obviously there are other factors, but my assumption is that the prerequisite courses are looked upon with a high degree of importance.

Is it possible to have all B+'s on all prereqs and still get into the accelerated program? My plan is to apply to the two-year program as well, but I'm just wondering if there is hope, or if someone has some experience with this.

Thanks so much.

Mindy
