NYP interview?

U.S.A. New York

okay! So I got an email from human resources at new york presbyterian, first asking me about what unit I want to work at, why I want to work at NYP, what shifts I wanted to work at etc.

Then, the HR lady called a week to follow up and let me know they did have oncology shifts open for nights and to expect another phone call the next week.

Another HR guy calls and asks similar questions about why I want to work at NYP etc etc... and then says he has to see if any of the oncology units have room to hire new grads as they have to keep their ratio of experienced nurses to new grad nurses... basically, this call didn't sound so promising as now it seems like they're telling me that they have to see if they even have a position for me...

He also tells me the process is to interview with HR then with manager.

Is it normal for things to take this long to arrange an interview? And now I'm paranoid about whether or not I'll even have a chance at an interview because the last phone call made it seem like there's a good chance there won't be positions either...

I think this is just me expressing my confusion here as this is my first call back in 4 months of job searching and I really really want this to work out!

Any helpful advice would be appreciate!!

This happened to my friend also. She got the same e-mail you did. A lady called saying that a recruiter would call her within a week and that person never did. She even tried to e-mail that person back but no response. So I guess is the same for everyone.

I think the fact that you got a call from the recruiter means that you stood out somehow in the initial screening. So hopefully it will lead to something for you. Good luck!

I know this is a late response to your post, but the same thing happened to me in February. I applied for a couple positions on the NYP website and they called me 3 days later and told me they would forward my resume on to the appropriate nurse recruiter. She told me to expect a call within one week and if not, to call her back. Well, one week and no call... so I called her back and left a message. The next day, I received an email from the recruiter who was supposed to call me emailed me the whole "while your qualifications are impressive, yada yada..." So I emailed her back to thank her and ask her what area I was lacking in that brought NYP to that decision... I was looking for honest constructive criticism... and she never responded to my email. I don't understand their HR/Recruitment department... who is actually getting interviews and getting hired in that health system?!?! They constantly have job postings!

i just got that "while your qualifications are impressive" bs thing too. It was so sad to read especially cuz I really really need a job soon. I feel like you need the "hook up" or someone on the inside to get a job now a days.

Human Resources at NYp really sucks. They are not on top of anything. Five years ago maybe, but during this recession they feel like you need them more. so they will treat you how ever.

I got the same bs response about having impressive credentials and whn I emailed the Hr person back, thank goodness I didn't hold my breath waiting for a response because I never got one.

the people they also have at job fairs are useless because when you ask them questions, they just state those are questions a nurse recruiter can answer.

Well, after applying for another position there, they actually contacted me by telephone this time and said they would forward my resume on to a recruiter who would contact me in 2-5 business days... I thought that meant this time I would actually have an interview. Not. The recruiter contacted me today (by email no less) and gave me the while- your- qualifications- are- impressive email. I realize they receive a high volume of resumes daily... but I don't understand the purpose of calling me and getting my hopes up for an interview... I'm starting to think maybe I don't want to work for this health system after all...

I think i'm going to stop applying for jobs at NYP. I applied online to another position and got the same bs message although your credentials are impressive, you are not selected for an interview at this time.

The kicker to this whole thing is that hte person that sent the email just sent the generic response without changing the name of the person who wrote it. so the email name and address doesn't match at all. Guess some one forgot how to proofread.
