How do you determine that you passed the NCLEX?

U.S.A. New York

Published

- study

- do lots of practice questions until you get them all correct

- the nclex is designed to help you PASS and is VERY forgiving.. no offense, but if you fail, you have no business handling the lives of other other human beings.. failing twice is horrible! i dont mean that in a mean way, but if you DONT know what youre doing, you are a very DANGEROUS nurse.

- go to barnes n noble or whatever bookstore is near u, go through all the nclex practice book questions and keep at it.. if you are answering them correctly, you are starting to pick up what is necessary to pass.. since you failed twice, you should consider paying for a good review course. you invested alot of time in nursing school, and you cant keep taking the nclex forever... i believe there is a lockout after a certain number of attempts...

actually there isn't a lock out. you can take it as many times as you want. i really don't appreciate you telling me that it's horrible that i failed twice. i was an amazing nursing student and i went through an accelerated 2 year rn program. we started off with 130 students in the beginning of the lpn year and i graduated with 32 other students in my program. i struggled, but not alone. i am very good with people and you only have to pass this test once. a test is not a true measure of what i am capable of as a nurse and i am absolutely sure that other nurses with pleanty of experience on this site would agree.

thank you.

so youre saying its a good thing that you failed twice? like i said before, the nclex is very forgiving and is designed to adjust to promote passing results.. would you want the doctor or nurse taking care of your family member knowing that they repeatedly failed the boards? a little scary. ive seen alot of scary nurses on the floor. you can kill people. im not writing to pick on you. i offered advice on how to study up and get the knowledge in. not being able to pass the boards is a big red flag that you are not ready to be on the floor. i dont care how great your people skills are or how many people you graduated with. they didnt create the boards as a some pat on the back formality. you are not automatically entitled to be a nurse just because you signed up for school. sure you worked hard through school.. so did everybody else. know your stuff before you take other peoples' lives in your hands. dont take offense to it, its the truth.

no offense, but if you fail, you have no business handling the lives of other other human beings.. failing twice is horrible! i dont mean that in a mean way, but if you DONT know what youre doing, you are a very DANGEROUS nurse....

you sound very discouraging right here....

You are measuring my ability to care for others over a test? The nclex is not forgiving, it is designed to pick at your weak points and become harder as you answer more questions. People pass on flukes all the time, so I dont believe that the NCLEX can truley measure anyones full Nursing capability.

I am doing all I can with the studying, I understand that its not okay to fail twice, I have cried hundreds of times over it but what can I do but pick myself up and do it all over again? What would you do if you failed twice? I'm not giving up. I just made a post on this site because I needed constructive advise, not someone telling me I am a horrible nurse.

Thanks anyways :uhoh3:

nobodys telling you that you are a horrible nurse. people dont pass on ""flukes". you either answer the question correctly, or you dont. every time my grades fell below my standards, i hit the books, modified my studying, and aced it the next exam. i didnt lie to myself or try to found outside fault, or hope for a "fluke" to pass. im not discouraging you. im telling you to STUDY because you are repeatedly not passing. your knowledge base is obviously not strong enough, or your test taking skills require sharpening. i went through the same torture of LPN school and went through even more torture through RN school; i know how rough it is. but i made sure that when i sat down for those boards that i would (try to) answer every question correctly, and ive passed each time with the minimum number of questions. if patient care was a multiple choice question, id hope that you are able to choose the correct answer. everyone makes mistakes.. but in the medical field, youd want to keep that to a minimum.

firstly, am sorry to hear that you've had to take the NCLEX twice without success.

I am unfamiliar with the test sheet you are referring to because I passed mine on the first try. However, I have heard that the test is notorious for not repeating any questions you may have gotten right the first time. So, I think your focus now should be on sections you went wrong on. From what I infer, Near passing or below passing sounds like a level you are at (one better than the other) but still not meeting the minimum competency to pass the test.

I don't know how much time you gave yourself to prepare for these tests but hopefully din't stumble to pressure of testing too early. As a successful test taker, my suggestion would be to give yourself sometime to recuperate and start fresh with a new testing strategy.

Have you tried KAPLAN?

deLite I dont need to fight with you please stop posting here if you have nothing positive to tell me. I've already told you im not proud of it - what do you want from me? I never said it was okay that I failed, but how else am I to cope but to move forward and study more? you arent helping me by telling me im a failure so could you stop? I'd appreciate it if we could ban together as nurses instead of rip eachother apart like animals on a post, even if you don't want to be my friend/fellow nurse, you have to realize that when you are taking care of your patient that there isnt a big sign on your forehead that says 'i failed my boards twice'. So dont be so quick to judge. Im sure you have friends in the field that have failed things they arent proud of either.

We have more in common than you think. I am pretty hard on myself too when it comes to school but other nurses have different perspectives than you do. I have heard a lot and I know you are telling me to study, I hear you, you and everyone else who tells me to study. Infact, I study every day.

I have signed myself up for a Kaplan review :D

I have signed myself up for a Kaplan review :D

wish you all the best then. i will perhaps PM you w/ what I did. if it helps you in any way.

I'm open to all suggestions if you have any

nobodys fighting here. im just stating the facts. know your stuff before you hit the floor. review what you dont know. when you post on a public internet forum, you cant expect every following post to be covered in sugar and baby powder. dont act like youre getting all defensive because im personally attacking you. i speak objectively. i dont know you and could care less if you ever pass your boards or not. this post began as a request for help passing the boards and i offered that, if you reread the thread sans subjectivity. methods to study, taking a review course.. just wait til you're on the floor and actually have to deal with families, patients, and other staff without all that sugarcoating... my forum posts are child's play. kudos on the kaplan course.. ive heard lots of good things.
