  1. I would write their A$$es up!! over and over and over again until they complied with the regulations. Check your policy but I'm pretty sure that after three write ups they can be fired. Talk to your DNS or RN supervisor for support and you can give them all a verbal warning if you feel as though things need to change.
  2. My school made us buy this bag of equipment which contained gause, paper tape, an IV bag of NS, etc so that we could practice our competencys in the nursing lab before we went to do clinical in the hospital. What I would suggest would be a pulse oximeter, an electric blood pressure cuff, a good stethoscope with the dual head you can flip over for smaller sounds within the body, a good bandage sissor with saftey edges, and lots and lots of black pens!! perhaps a notebook just for clinical to jot down things you wouldnt otherwise learn in a textbook. Another good thing to have is that pen with the different colors (red, green and black) so that you can circle certain things. Those colors are most widley used within the medical field of practice. Dont forget to write your name on all your equipment! some of those items are expensive but they will help you throughout your nursing career. I wish I had a pulse OX in college!
  3. Hello everyone! I am a new RN supervisor (never been a supervisor before.. just charge) at my new job and I am beginning to do wound rounds starting TOMORROW. Today I did three assessments on three different admissions and kind of asked around about what I was supposed to fill out, how to chart, where to chart, etc.. I am kind of terrified (although I am confident in my appearance) to what the doctor and other supervisors are expecting me to do tomorrow while I follow the doctor around. I know I am supposed to do measurements and such, but does anyone know what I am supposed to expect? and what others are supposed to expect from me? Anything would be insightful at this point! like I said, I am confident and willing to go the extra mile to do what I have to do to become good at being a wound care nurse but I am just semi nervous because I have never done this before. Thank you for reading this post and I hope I get some positive responses and helpful comments!!
  4. Hello everybody! I am an RN in NY state and I have applied to many many different types of facilities. You name it, I've applied there. So I just had an interview in a place 4 hours away from my home town, and it went amazing. I really thought I had a shot, I kept thinking that if this dosent work out, I will have to join the airforce... So I just got the rejection email this morning. Can you say majorly depressed? Do you think I should call them still? Please advise. On a side note; Does anyone know anything about the airforce & nurses? I already interviewed & I am in the process of filling out the paper work because they pay for your schooling & reimburse you for some of your loan after the first year. Be nice! & thank you. Any *constructive* advise is GREATLY appreciated.
  5. theres no need to get nasty lol clearly you are the one who is getting defensive otherwise you wouldnt be posting back. I dont know why you are projecting all this anger out on this post.
  6. I'm open to all suggestions if you have any
  7. I have signed myself up for a Kaplan review
  8. deLite I dont need to fight with you please stop posting here if you have nothing positive to tell me. I've already told you im not proud of it - what do you want from me? I never said it was okay that I failed, but how else am I to cope but to move forward and study more? you arent helping me by telling me im a failure so could you stop? I'd appreciate it if we could ban together as nurses instead of rip eachother apart like animals on a post, even if you don't want to be my friend/fellow nurse, you have to realize that when you are taking care of your patient that there isnt a big sign on your forehead that says 'i failed my boards twice'. So dont be so quick to judge. Im sure you have friends in the field that have failed things they arent proud of either. We have more in common than you think. I am pretty hard on myself too when it comes to school but other nurses have different perspectives than you do. I have heard a lot and I know you are telling me to study, I hear you, you and everyone else who tells me to study. Infact, I study every day.
  9. you sound very discouraging right here.... You are measuring my ability to care for others over a test? The nclex is not forgiving, it is designed to pick at your weak points and become harder as you answer more questions. People pass on flukes all the time, so I dont believe that the NCLEX can truley measure anyones full Nursing capability. I am doing all I can with the studying, I understand that its not okay to fail twice, I have cried hundreds of times over it but what can I do but pick myself up and do it all over again? What would you do if you failed twice? I'm not giving up. I just made a post on this site because I needed constructive advise, not someone telling me I am a horrible nurse. Thanks anyways
  10. actually there isn't a lock out. you can take it as many times as you want. i really don't appreciate you telling me that it's horrible that i failed twice. i was an amazing nursing student and i went through an accelerated 2 year rn program. we started off with 130 students in the beginning of the lpn year and i graduated with 32 other students in my program. i struggled, but not alone. i am very good with people and you only have to pass this test once. a test is not a true measure of what i am capable of as a nurse and i am absolutely sure that other nurses with pleanty of experience on this site would agree. thank you.
  11. I have a nursing degree but I am the admin assistant to the president of a company. If you have other skills, why not utilize them? like if you know Microsoft word/powerpoint/excel, etc. I dont see why not?
  12. I have been doing mostly questions but when I read the rationale and I dont understand, I switch to content. I've realized i may have to do more disease process review, i am able to recognize a lot of signs and symptoms that are from specific Dx, that I am decent at, the medications i am currently trying to work on but I never know which ones I am going to be tested on during the NCLEX. I try to do around 90 NCLEX questions a day, sometimes I do double on the weekends, Id say about 1 hour a day Mon-Fri and usually more than 2 on the weekends (thats when I have time to catch up usually). I do feel tired when i get off of work but I drink coffee lol I feel like I have all the information inside of me but when it comes to recognizing it sometimes I get scared or double guess myself.. and I wish I didnt do that but Im not sure how to stop doing that. I dont think I have test anxiety, because I'm always calm until an hour before the test, I pray everyday haha but I wouldnt say I pray fast. Thank you for the post!
  13. I have just graduated from an associates degree program. Listen carefully, I would definately go for a BSN program. THis is something they dont tell you after you graduate but ALL NURSING PROGRAMS ARE DIFFERENT. Since i am an associates degree, none of my credits for nursing related courses transfer to other schools, except one online program, which i havent decided yet if i will persue it. I would advise you to keep your options open as much as you can and aim for the stars! go for a BSN program, they are much slower paced (so ive heard). Thats just my opinion, that and most hospitals perfer BSN to ASD. I wish you the best of luck in anything you persue!!
  14. I looked up the HURST review and its not offered in NY state apparently? I work 9-5, mon-fri and I tried looking into Kaplan but their evening classes were canceled because not enough people joined them. The next possible time I can take the NCLEX is after Jan 21st. Do you have any study tips for me? I have soo many NCLEX review books, I read the kaplan, ATI, I have the orange saunders book and I answered every question in that book, I did flash cards, im doing flashcards now for pharm to study that seems to help quite a bit. I ordered another saunders book which has amazing reviews on amazon. I really am reaching out because im starting to realize that I must be doing something wrong ! My program was an accelerated RN program and they rushed us through a lot of things, not that I blame them but I wish that i was better prepared! I feel like I have no guidance THank you for letting me rant! lol and thank you for replying so quickly hope you are having a happy holiday!
