I am currently a senior nursing student in an accelerated program and looking towards graduation and work. My GPA is fairly weak (3.4) - I don't really have any excuses other than I'm trying my hardest to get it to a 3.5 or above, and I stress out over it constantly. I know many externships and hospitals shut out people below 3.5 applying to their externships, but in terms of hiring, what are the GPA requirements? And is there a difference in requirements for HHC vs. private (Sinai, Methodist, BI, etc)? Thanks!

There is no GPA requirement. Only residencies (such as NYP) require 3.0 or higher. I interviewed for non-residency positions in hospitals as a accelerated BSN new grad (I had 4yrs as peds case manager (social work type job) and 6 months peds clinic RN experience but none in a hospital) and no one asked my GPA....they only wanted a copy of my license and my BSN degree. I accepted a position at an HHC (Kings County).
