BMCC: a semester break between pre-reqs and nursing sequence?

U.S.A. New York

Hi,

Anybody went to BMCC? I have been told by admissions that once I finish my pre-requisites and apply for nursing school even if my gpa is high there is a semester break because of application deadlines. I called nursing department but they wouldn't discuss it or give much info until i almost done with pre-reqs..

It is important to know because if I have to waste half a year I would rather go to Hunter and get BSN within the same period of time.

Yeah, it's right. I have a friend in BMCC and they have the same calendar as LaGuardia where I study. The year is divided into 4 semesters (2 long ~12weeks and 2 shorts ~6weeks in Lagcc). The nursing classes are offered during the long sessions. during the short sessions you can take the other classes such us microbio, eng 102, sociology, etc.

If your are going full-time it will take you max. 2 years to graduate.

Good luck.:wink2:

Bibia,

How long did it take you to finish up with your pre-reqs?

It would've taken me 1 semester if I was not working full-time and if English was my first language. I took 1 or 2 classes at a time so it took me 2 semesters = 4 Lag semesters. It took me 1 year to guarantee a 4.0 GPA

i`m in bmcc and finished most sience and liberal art courses. As you mentioned that this program takes up to 3 and half years.Because, you need to take courses step by step. Normaly nursing classes takes 2 years in full. Also, it is very hard to get into program.i am looking for another school with my 3.80 gpa

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was told the same crap which made me ****** because if that was the case, I wouldn't have taken a semester off (Fall 2008). I am very upset.... And also keep hearing that the bmcc program doesn't treat their nursing students and they keep giving you the runaround....how true is this? So far, it's been okay but its from a non-nirsing perspective.
