Anybody @ NYC Tech take A&P 1 during the Summer?

This will be my first science course in more than 12 years (since high school). I am registered to take it this summer for 5 weeks. Can anyone give me any tips, advice or suggestions to help me get the best possible grade?

I'm so scared and would love to get a head start on maybe some books/flashcards/websites that will help out.

I will be working full-time, however this is the only class I'm taking in the summer.

I took it in the Summer of 2008 and was pretty nervous as well because I have been out of college for 10 years. And while I was in college, did not take any type of science classes. I got the grade I want by keeping on top of things. I know this may sound obvious, but for Summer A&P I basically had 2 exams (one lab, one lecture exam) each week. Additionally, there were, I believe, two practical exams. It was a lot of stress and work but I actually prefer this because it goes by fast (and I felt like I had less time to mess up, as opposed to the full 4 months.) The lecture exams and lab exams were not bad- just memorize and understand the concepts. The trickiest part was the lab practical exams, where you identify structures and landmarks on bones, fetal pig, organelles etc. The structures often look different in the book, real life (practical exam), plastic models, different angles, etc. Use the A&P pictures in your book and the supplement photo book. You will want to be able to identify and name these parts looking at different pictures, handouts and models and from various angles. I hope this helps a little! If you have any questions or if something is unclear, pls let me know. I would love to help. Good luck!

Flash cards, flash cards, flash cards! Learn EVERYTHING the teacher says. I took A&P 2 at Citytech last summer. I worked my butt off. Expect to eat, sleep, and study for 5 weeks. Good luck!

I am taking A&P II now and I find it harder than A&P I that I took in the summer 2008. Also, I think that the Profesors are willing to be a little understanding because they recognize that the semester/course moves fast and you cover alot of material. I think A&P II is a little harder. Just make sure you go to every class, take notes, study your lecture notes. I did not have to really study my book that much for lecture, just for things I really did not understand. Depending on the professor, you may just be able to study your notes for the lecture exams, which then is actually pretty easy and not information overload. Like I said, my biggest issue was identifying parts on on the practicals. Things look different because they are either shiny plastic models, or actual bones (very dehydrated and yellowed) and it gets confusing after you study from pictures in book and then going to look at the models during the exam. It is so funny looking back bc I remember picking up a bone several times during practicals, flipping it over in my hands, panicing because I was really confused as to what the heck I was looking at and then being relieved to realize that I recognize it and the landmarks I needed to identify on it.
