Hello to all. I was recently accepted into the BAT program. I figured I would create a thread for those accepted. I am a local resident and I work at the local hospital. If you have any questions in regards to the area, hospitals, etc... I will do my best to answer your questions or concerns. Looking forward to getting to know my fellow BATs' and completing this intense 12 month program together.

Hi! I just got my acceptance email today :) I am still waiting to hear from Columbia as well so not sure what I am going to decide, but the price is a huge plus! I definitely have lots of questions... I live in NYC and would be moving out of the apartment I share with my boyfriend if I were to accept. I've never been to Binghamton... How feasible do you think it is to come back and visit NYC every so often? Is there a bus that you know of that runs between the two cities? Also, how do you think getting around without a car would be?

Thanks for the offer to answer our questions, and congrats!

Dee789. Congrats on your acceptance! I hope you get into Columbia as well. You're right as far as price.. it's a steal!. In Binghamton we have a shortline and grayhound station. It's about a 3 hour trip with a few stops in between. In terms of transportation, getting around is more than feasible by bus. My only concern would be clinical rotations outside of the Binghamton area like Syracuse NY. However, I'm sure carpooling is an option. The campus itself is actually in Vestal, NY and is centrally located to just about everything. Also, their are many apartments close by. BU has off-campus apartments called University Plaza apartments. They are a bit pricey, but very close to campus. If you have anymore questions please feel free to follow up.

Thanks for the info! It sounds like it wouldn't be too hard to get back to NYC for a weekend every once in a while, assuming we don't have clinicals on the weekend (not sure if we do?). Did you go to Binghamton for undergrad by any chance? I joined the accepted students FB group and saw that there seem to be lot of return students -- must be a good sign!

I want to try and come up to visit for a weekend in the next month or two, before I have to make a decision. We have some sort of orientation, right? (I haven't gotten my official acceptance package in the mail yet).

What do you do in the local hospital?

Thanks again for the help! I don't know anything about the area so it's great to have someone from there to answer questions!

No, I didn't go to BU for undergrad. It does seem as though a lot of BU graduates do come back. I joined that group also. Likewise, I haven't received my acceptance packet yet.

I work in the ER as a Medical Scribe.

Additional info; As far as clinical sites, we have two main Hospitals. Which are Lourdes and Wilson hospital. Both offer great opportunities in terms of clinical experience.

I am glad I can offer help. Please feel free to ask away. Inbox me if you need to. Again, Good luck!

Dee789, I was in the BAT program last year. I am also from NYC. I drove down nearly every weekend the entire program. It's 3.5 hours from here to Brooklyn.
