UMDNJ v. Fairleigh...Please help

Hi all,

I have been accepted to UMDNJ 15 month accelerated and Fairleigh 2 year part time accelerated for the fall 2009, but I seem to be having a hard time deciding between the two. UMDNJ has been my first choice all along, but I am worried about the fast paced program and the pressure that no C's are allowed while enrolled. I was told that you will be placed on probabtion if you obtain a C, then if repeated you are dropped out of the program.

I have always been an A student with a few B's here and there... should i be worried?

1) Is it really that hard to maintain an A average at UMDNJ?

2) Which school has the better reputation?

3) Do you think it will affect my performance at UMDNJ if I continued to work (on a part time basis of course)?

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, experiences etc.

I am also accepted to UMDNJ in Stratford and I know a few people in the program and I never heard you cant get a "c". Fairleigh is very expensive and yes it is a somewhat slower pace but its I think almost double what umdnj is. (confirm this) You need to double check your information about the grade requirement even if it means speaking with the admission counselor/recruiter at umdnj. I was also going to apply to fairleigh until one of their students told me they dont give you any money and its very expensive. She also said at the end of the day you still have a BSN even if you go elsewhere.

I am glad I picked UMDNJ and yes it is about half of Fairleigh (UMDNJ 31,000.00 and Fairleigh 56,000).

The question regarding no C's was brought up by several students during orientation and although C is not an automatic failure, if continously repeated and improvement is not shown one can find themselves at the Dean's office, it didnt appear as though they wanted to answer that question with a simple yes or no.

So to avoid all that confusion I am going to study hard and smart to maintain A's and B's and nothing lower than C+.

I will be starting on the 8th as am sure you will be as well, so good luck to the both of us!

Can you give any tips for students who want to apply to UMDNJ?

prereqs

gpa needed to get in

do they look at overall gpa or program gpa?

is there an interview?

do they admitt fall, spring, and summer?

anything else?

people to talk to to get answers?

Hi,

Check out the link below you need a 3.0 bachelor gpa and 2.75 gpa in prerequisites. You can call the school of nursing for specific questions they accept fall spring and summer at Newark. Only summer and spring in Stratford which is where I am going. No interview it was pretty easy to get in as long as you have the required gpa apply early.

Do you have to take all your prereqs before applying to the program? Will they wait till they see your current semester grades before making deciding?

I just graduated the accelerated BSN program in Spet of 09 and when I applied for spring of 08 they told me that I had to wait till i finished taking microbio. Then i got in for May of 08. But My other class mates where taking there pre reqs as they were starting the program, so I guess you could be enrolled as a RN student while finishing up your prereqs. Good luck in the program. I am glad I finished. It was a long, hard, but do-able program.

Also, It is hard to get an A but it is attainable. I graduated with a 3.5. I mostly got B+'s in the program. It was a fun program, especially going to the Dominican Republic with the school of nursing. That was soooo much fun!

There were 40 in my class, but only 35 graduated becuase some people dropped out or failed.:specs:

It was a fun program, especially going to the Dominican Republic with the school of nursing. That was soooo much fun!

I understand this is an outdated post, but I was curious to learn more about your experience going to the Dominican Republic with the School of Nursing. Can you fill me in with more details? I'll be starting the ABSN program on Tuesday and would LOVE to add this to my nursing experience!
