Rutgers ABSN 2013

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hey everyone, my name is Nicole and I am hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers accelerated nursing program that begins this May/June. I would love to chat with anyone who is currently in the program or who is applying for entry into the program for 2013.

Here's a little about myself..I graduated from Rutgers in 2010 with a double major in biology and nutrition (3.7 GPA), and then went on to graduate school at UMDNJ where I studied Epidemiology (4.0 GPA). I am really hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers program, but am nervous because they only accept a small cohort of students. I've also applied to Seton Hall's ABSN program which is at Georgian Court, but Rutgers is my 1st choice.

Congrats, Laura! I just found out I was admitted also. I wasn't emailed anything, but the status was updated on the site. Do you have to test out of any courses?

Congrats jayipe!

Where did you do your undergrad? Do you have to test out of any classes? If so, which ones if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks, gsp2013! I studied design and business at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I had to take the science courses at 3 community colleges to fulfill the requirements. There were no course equivalents to Cultural Dimensions of Humans- I'll have to test out of it.

That's great! Was this the only program you applied to? Also if you don't mind me asking- what was your undergrad GPA and your GPA when you applied to the program? Did they say when you have to test out of that class by? Also, when is the start date for the program?

Sorry it took me a while to get back, for some reason allnurses isn't sending me updates to this thread like I requested. Anyway, I wasn't emailed anything. I just kept checking my RU Status (like 2 or 3 times a day!).

Jayipe- I'm testing our of both Cultural Dimensions and whatever the Communication course was. I'm somewhat regretting the decision to test out because I work with a girl who is currently in the program and she said the testing out is h*ll. She said to get started on it as early as possible so it doesn't mess with your other studies that first semester. She also said that the challenge exams are pretty tricky and detailed.

I studied Pre-Law and Political Science and Ramapo College and graduated with a 3.6. My current GPA for my prereqs is 4.0. I think they look a lot at grade trends because my undergrad GPA isn't terribly high. I did, however, start with a 2.8 in college and ended up with straight A's and a 3.6.

This was the only program I applied to (talk about all of my eggs in one basket!) but I had backup decisions to apply in the Fall for UMDNJ and my community college.

gsp- The start date for the program is always scheduled for the Tuesday after Memorial Day (so that's the 28th of May). And I believe you have the entire first semester to test out (August 2013).

Once again, good luck to you all and keep us updated! Jayipe, please let me know when you get your introductory packet. Apparently they are going to send us all of the information regarding clearance requirements and orientation.

Hi all, I also just found out I am in today. I have all the same questions that you all have, especially regarding testing out of certain courses. The nutrition I took as a pre-req was only a one credit course (oddly) so I will have to take care of that as well, and probably before the start date! Looking forward to getting more info and meeting you all. --Heather

hey all, I was just accepted this morning via an email and my status page update. I'm so excited :) I'm in the New Brunswick cohort. Good luck to everyone!!

Nic, how did you find what cohort you're in? I requested New Brunswick and want to make sure that's the one I'm in. Thanks!

I am a former Rutgers student, so i think my acceptance email/status page is different. On my actual status page it says that I have been accepted to the NB campus. Does your status page offer a college contact? If so, I would e-mail them to make sure you were accepted to the New Brunswick campus. On another note, did you receive any orientation information?

No info on orientation yet. Last year it was the first Friday in May. We should be getting a packet in the mail I believe. And thanks for the info on the cohorts

you're very welcome. I'm looking forward to meeting you and all the other accelerated students @ orientation!

I too, have also been accepted. I am very excited and nervous! I will have to test out of the communication class and diversity in medicine class. I was curious to know from which counties is everyone from? I am already thinking about study groups and seeing where everyone is from to see where the best place to meet up to study would be. Congrats to everyone. Here's to new beginnings! See you guys soon. :)
