PCCC Nursing Student Introduction

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

I actually accidentally came across this site when I searched online for care plan suggestions and I'm so glad I did.

This site is just loaded with tons of resources that should prove to be helpful through my next two years in the nursing program.

I'm located in the Northern NJ area and attend the program at Passaic County Community College (PCCC) in the evenings. Anyone else in here attend? Past, Present or Hopeful future? :)

A little about me:

-Thirty something year old mother of two who believes it's never to late to follow her dreams. :nurse:

-Work full time during the day and attend the program in the evening.

-Currently in my first semester, just 2 months in, and it's clear as day that I most definitely have my work cut out for me

BUT

I'm so determined that I know it's just a matter or time till I get where I want to be. :D

Look forward to getting to know you all better.

hey rn or die trying,

i graduated from pccc dec. 2006. it was a tough program, but i left with a 3.4 gpa. i feel your pain!! i was 30-something when i started. i worked full time and did the evening program too. with pre-reqs. and all it took my 4years to complete the program. my son was 3 when i started. i had so much determination, nothing was gonna stop me. don"t let it stop you either!! just about every other day, i would say to myself this is too tough, why am i doing this to myself and wanted to quite.i had a very decent job already, but always wanted to be a rn. i start my online bsn program this may!

best of luck to you, hang in there, and only surround yourself with very positive people during your journey. is professor covre still there?? everyone thought she was mean and unfair, i gained strenght through her and absolutely love her!!

Hello to you two both!

I am currently in my second semester at PCCC and having a more interesting experience than the 1st semester around.!

Hi,

I am a student at PCCC, I am halfway through chem. and can not wait to be done with it....lol!

I am also 30 something and a single mom of two boys.

Determination is definitely what you need in order to make it.

I have finished all my other pre-req. except microbiology which I was thinking of completing in the summer. I am taking the NET tomorrow morning!!!!!! and will apply to the day program for Sept., however, I might end up doing the evening if days do not coordinate with my work schedule.

How do you find the evening program to be? it must be exhausting working all day and then classes until 10.

Help!!! I need some suggestions on how it can be done....I need some encouragement!

denise, yes you can work full-time and do the evening nursing program. is it difficult? yes!! will you be tired? yes!! will you have days when you will want to quit? yes!! but, can you do this? yes!! you will need to be very organized and never get behind in any assignments. your social life will be nil, until you are done. you will definitely need help with your young boys. my son was 3-years old when i started. thank god for my mom and his dad, never could have done it without help. if you can, find someone in your class who is in the similar situation. you can gain strength from each other. the 18-year old living at home without kids and no job, will not have the same path as you. surround yourself with only positive people. you can do this woman!! good luck to you and i hope this info helps.

Hi Denise and Everyone!

I'm in the PCCC program now (day program Nursing 2), and an aspiring Nurse Anesthetist! Might I also mention that I'm a male nurse! There's only 4 of us in the day program in Nursing 2.

@Denise, how are things coming along? Hope you did great on the NET!

except microbiology which I was thinking of completing in the summer.

I took Micro with Prof. Loving last semester - she is absolutely awesome! Very knowledgable and has a great sense of humor. As long as you pay attention in class, and take good notes - you'll do great! The book isn't even necessary. She makes up her exams - directly from the notes given in class, so there are no "surprises".

Anyway, I'm a 30-something mom of two boys (5 & 8) and hope to start Nur. 1 in the fall (day program). Finished all of my pre-reqs and did excellent on my NET. Just a heads up - don't hold your breath waiting for your test results - they took about 6 weeks to get to my mailbox!! :nurse:
