Passaic County Community College RN program

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi...Has anyone attended or graduated from the program at Passaic County Community College. I was just accepted and do not know anything about their program. I'm trying to find out it they prepare their students well for the NCLEX or for on the job.

I will be applying for Fall 16. I received proficient on my teas and my gpa is 3.0. Pretty bummed about that :(. Will I get into the nursing program? Because I keep hearing its difficult. :/

Hey @jigjig03. I just turned in my application to the pccc nursing program. I also received proficient on my teas but I'm wondering if it should be better since pccc doesn't use the science portion. I wish I knew students in the program because I really want to know how hard it is to get in!! I'm going to be on pins and needles for the next two months waiting to find out.

I was a student recent grad I can answer your questions. Let me tell you, it's hard. They make it hard because the program is hard and I've seen many students fail clinicals fail tests, many who graduate are people who failed and retook the semester. Also, this school needs to start hiring fairer instructors. If they don't like you they will find a way to fail you. It's sad. They forget that this is a learning experience not a job.

Thank you for the response Nursesknow!! Wow that scares me. I was hoping from the older posts about this school, things might have gotten better. First of all congratulations on graduating! ! Your hard work paid off. I am scared because I am a single mom so my life is depending on me getting in and graduating. I literally can't afford to not do well. Can you tell me, since it appears there is quite a bit of unfairness in this school, and on top of it being difficult, how does a student do well and actually pass? What is the key to making it through in your opinion?

There were many students who had families and we're also depending on not failing, but a few did.. even up to the last semester with two months before graduating. I've noticed that to do well you have to buddy up with a small group of friends that you'll make. And believe me, there will be clicks forming that think they are superior than others. So once you buddy up, follow the power points, ignore the textbook because it will only confuse you with unnecessary information. Instead, purchase review books that correlate to the subject, like Saunders Nclex review book. A book like this will give you short version info with practice questions. Make sure to do questions before each test. I recommend Mosby nclex review books for this.

With my first post, I didn't mean to scare you. But it's reality with the school. You will have to push through with little to no mistakes when it comes to clinical skills. You can be good in test taking, but once you're in the clinical setting, the instructors don't play with mistakes. Many students got sent home for failing to do something right at the hospital. Be prepared to read every form they give you and verify everything twice with the instructors before assuming anything. I was also surprised how unorganized this program is being that their nursing program has been around since 1968. What a shame.

Good evening everyone. Thank you for posting so many info about the program. I have heard all the horror stories from my close friends. I applied for Fall 2016 and have to be honest that I'm terrified. We I will get to the program I will do my best. I understand that we need to stay as much neutral as possible, no questions, ignoring cheating and allow to be humiliated by the professors. I'm wondering that such thing is even happening. I'm wondering if a Dean of college never heard how the students are treated by the professors in the nursing program. I'm wondering if the nursing program professors are reading all you write about the program and laugh?

I love that school, I really do, I had a great experience with all professor, they are the nicest people on earth, very fair and helpful. Why the nursing professors act this way? It should be prevented as soon as possible, it is unacceptable.

It all comes down to politics. If it's not this school, it's another. What more students need to do is unite and speak up. They can't let instructors bully them. Some of my classmates were scared that the instructors would find out and then try to fail them in clinicals, because they are with you in lecture and clinicals. But I did see another group get together and complain to the dean, must have been about 6 students together. The dean only questioned the instructor, the instructor kept teaching, basically she wasnt disciplined and threatened students that now that they've gone to the dean to report her, she will be extra hard on them during clinicals.

If you plan to get in and you do, just stick your head in your studying, don't make close friends (because you will get backstabbed) and remember that's it's only a few long hard months till you graduate. Good luck.

Has anyone heard back if they've been accepted or not? I thought we were supposed to hear in the beginning of April.

I called the nursing depth the other day and they said we will know by end of April.

Hi!

Stay away from PCCC nursing program. It hasn't changed One bit. The professors don't give a damn about the students and their test are still the same load of crap. They gave us an exam with a typo and held students accountable for their mistake and never gave back points. Their exams are full of bs questions that have nothing to do with the material. STAY AWAY!! THIS SCHOOL IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME
