License by endorsement HELP

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm a RN in Pennsylvania and am in the process of applying for endorsement. I went to college in PA so I got my license there. I have been reading literally every single thread on this website to gain more information about this process. While the posts have been helpful I still have some questions and would appreciate you sharing your experience.

Here is what my online checklist looks like:

I literally call these people twice a week. Every time it is something different. I need this license number ASAP so I can work. I found a contact name but no number or email, I even checked the printable application like someone mentioned.

I have read so many posts about driving up to Newark and I am more than willing to do that. Will I be successful with my checklist looking like this? When I get there what do I say? I plan to drive up there sometime this week and hopefully will leave with a license. I appreciate your comments so much.

Hi! I sent you a PM about this topic since you were successful with this. I am planning on driving up there tomorrow morning, but I really don't want to come back empty handed. I live in south jersey so it's almost a 2 hour drive to go to Newark. I would be devastated if I had to drive for 4 hours (to and from) for nothing.

Were they polite? What exactly did you say when you first walked in? I just want to make sure I say/do the right things so that I can get that license tomorrow. I start orientation on Monday so I really have no time to wait. I started my application in June so it's not like I'm asking too much of them.

If you can, either reply here or send me a PM. I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi! the site would not allow be to PM you back because I dont have enough posts or something?

I'm from the same area so i know what you mean about not wanting to leave empty handed. you definitely should not have any issues when you get there. i went into the office and was being overly nice to everyone and just said i was there to check the status of my application by endorsement. theres a blue sheet of paper that you fill out and after about 15 minutes of waiting they came out of this back room and said the number is online and you should receive the hard copy in the mail in 7-10 days.

i started the process july 1 so if i was able to get it, i am sure you will be able to! it is a long ride but its so worth it! also dont forget to bring some money/credit card. theres a parking garage a block or 2 away from the building and for 30 minutes its $5.. anything after the rate goes up to $15.. its outrageous! there are meters too but depending on what time you get up there they may be all taken.

Any tips on what to say I plan on driving to the BON on Monday? Should I bring the checklist and PA license?

I just said I wanted to know the status of my application. That's really it. I brought my things but no one asked to see them. They just had me fill out a form and then they said my license number was posted online. Good luck!

I brought all my info just in case but nobody asked for it. make sure you have money/credit card for parking!! good luck!

I went there yesterday and got my license number today. It was totally worth the 3hr trip. The thing that was holding up my license was the verification thru Nursy (it had a date on the checklist so I wrongly assumed that it was complete). As many times as I had called, no one stated that was the issue and that they were still waiting on the background check which already came back. I asked for a point of contact and fax number. I went home and did the verification online and faxed the point of contact the receipt of the verification around 3pm. Today at 10am my license number was online.

I can't say that I'm happy that everyone has the same problem with the New Jersey Board of nursing! They've had my information for about a month now, after calling yesterday, they said oh, your fingerprint cards are in the mail. They are very good at lowering expectations! By starting off with, "Oh, you are very early in the process!" Early in the process, it's been a month already! They were kind enough to inform me that it usually takes about three months to get your New Jersey license, even by endorsement. I too am just in Pennsylvania. It seems both unreasonable and unwarranted to take three months to endorse a license from and adjoining state. Especially when they were states that you can walk into you with all of your information and receive he seemed a license. Do I have no plans to drive to new work to get my license I will be calling more frequently to update myself on the process. Thanks everyone for your comments

NJ moves slower for a variety of reasons. The board committee approval of each licenses after thorough background check stems from public protections enacted after the Charles Cullen fiasco.

Did you apply online? You can monitor your application status online via the checklist.

Those that apply by paper add 4-6 weeks to the process as the data must be scanned, checked and edited by one clerk then QC'd by a second clerk before the processing can even begin.

OMG! Despite the unfortunate actions of a single nurse, this system is draconian! If NJ, et al would participate in the compact this system would be far more streamlined. They were just fine taking my money...immediately deposited! To tell me that that this is a 2-3 month process is not positive for business and certainly not for those who wish to work in this state.

One published reason NJ will not participate in NLC (same for NY & PA) is that not all states mandate the same extensive background checks as NJ BoN.

One nurse that was caught and likely murdered hundreds of innocent patients in a few states....it is what it is. BoN is not there to support nurses but to protect the public.

NJ bureaucracy is notoriously slow in most areas
