Help! UMDNJ ABSN and new administration

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hello:

I need some help from students in UMDNJ's accelerated BSN program -- especially those who currently in the program, under the new administration (I imagine students' experiences today would be very different than they were in 2006, for example).

I was accepted to the program for Spring '08, but had to defer for two semesters. When I went for orientation in December, we were told we'd need to study for 50 hours per week, in addition to our clinicals and class time (about 80 hours a week for school-related things altogether) -- are those kind of hours really necessary to succeed in the program? I honestly just don't think I could do that and maintain my sanity and my marriage!

I can start at UMDNJ in Sept., though I can also opt to go to Mountainside Hospital's program instead. I know comparing a clinical-heavy diploma program and more theoretical BSN program is like apples and oranges, but any advice would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi -- anyone able to offer any thoughts? Thanks!

Don't have anything specific to offer, but I know there are some existing threads about people's experience in various ABSN programs (intensity, time commitment, etc.) and how well-prepared they felt themselves to be, in retrospect, after they graduated and started practicing.

Looking over some of those might be helpful or interesting for you ...
