Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

Yes I registered too.... Section 601 for all three classes :)

I tried to register for Section 601 today, but it's not allowing me to register without registering for BIO and PSYCH??? I've already taken those courses, but I took them out-of-state so maybe the system isn't recognizing my transferred classes!?! Hmmm. Did anyone else have a similar issue??

Oh, that's probably why... The system just doesn't recognize it because it isn't in your BCC history.... I would just call, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Issue solved!!!! I am in Section 601 with you guys!!! yayyy! :yeah:

hello all. I was accepted and also registered for the 601 section.

I have a few worries tho...

I saw all of the materials that we will need and know where to get the books, but I am confused about the uniform as well as the nursing skills kit. Will we be getting more information on these items, or are we expected to find them on our own?

Penlight, stethoscope, and bandage scissors are pretty generic and I am not too worried about them.

Thanks for any advice that you guys have. I just want to make sure that I have everything and can start on the right track!!:)

Hi JMB443,

Congrats on your acceptance!!:yeah:I spoke to Elsa in admissions yesterday and asked her what the next "step" was and she said that after the school receives your form saying that you're accepting their offer, you will receive further instructions either by mail or email which will tell you step-by-step what you need to do prior to January. While you're waiting on that, I would check in with the health department at school to see what additional immunizations you'll need for the program; they will also give you the information on the mandatory health insurance (if you dont already have it). Also, if you haven't done your CPR, I would recommend signing up soon before classes fill up. Other than that, I am personally waiting for additional instructions :)

I am also really curious about the "kit" that is required, but Elsa promised that this info would be provided ASAP. If you have any questions, I would recommend talking to her; she is very sweet and helpful!

I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks. Congrats again!!

from my history of tracking this forum, everything can be purchased in the uniform place which i believe is still belle uniforms in paterson, in our next packet of information there will be an order form with what is needed along with prices. even though the stethoscope can be purchased at belle for $25. i've read that is it of lesser quality and you may want to shop around for a better quality, perhaps take advantage of all these cyber deals.

also, my real name is erica and i am looking forward to meeting everyone is a few weeks! :yeah:

Wow, this place has come back to life again :stdnrsrck:

Thanks Krissy and Erica for you help. My name is Jessie and I look forward to meeting you in January! I wish time would pass faster so we could start!

I handed in my form accepting my acceptance (I guess - LOL) a week ago today, still haven't gotten anything in the mail... If anyone gets the packet please post :) About the stethoscope... I definitely wouldn't waste time/money on the $25 one either, I was thinking of just getting a good one because I'll need it eventually & wouldn't it make more sense to learn on the one you'll actually be using?? What does everyone think?

I say go with the crappy one. You are bound to lose it/get it stained and most of all if you can do the vitals with a crappy stethoscope, you can use any stethoscope in the future. Just might help you "learn the hard way" Just my opinion..

hmm... didn't think of it that way... thanks!! I should also ask, do the instructors care either way what kind you use?
